The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a leading internationally recognised non-formal youth development program that empowers young people to realise their full potential beyond academic success. It encourages Participants to set and achieve goals as they learn new skills, improve their physical well-being, volunteer in the community and experience an outdoor team adventure.
The Award can help Participants find jobs and apply for national and international scholarship programs at participating Universities.
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards can be achieved at three different levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. As the levels increase, the time commitment required to complete each level also increases. The Award is self-directed, and students can choose the activities they would like to include in each section.
Each level (Bronze, Silver, Gold) is made up of three Sections: Physical Recreation, Voluntary Service and Skills. Student can choose their own activities for each Section, some of which they may already be doing through extracurricular activities. This means that parents play a vital role in supporting and encouraging young people as they work towards their goal. Students at Pittwater House are also supported at weekly workshop meetings.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is available to all students at Pittwater House in Years 9 to 12. In the coming weeks, Year 9 will be given a presentation to introduce them to the Award and provide information about how to join. If you would like more information about the Duke of Edinburgh program, please watch the parent information video: here.
