Stage 2

A message from Stage 2

This term is flying by! The students are settling into their classroom routines and teachers have enjoyed getting to know their new students.

A huge thank you to the parents who booked an appointment with their child’s teacher to discuss their child’s goals. We look forward to helping your child achieve these over the year.

Stage 2 Harmony Afternoon

Stage 2 students, parents and carers are invited to join us on 21 March from 4:30-6:00pm for an afternoon of community, fun and food. This is a great opportunity to get to know other members of the BVPS Stage 2 community as well as to enjoy some dinner together (a sausage sizzle, tea and coffee will be provided). You should have received a flyer for the afternoon but keep your eyes peeled for more information to come on School Bytes.

English

Students are continuing to develop their understanding of text structure and a range of techniques authors use to provide rich descriptions. Students are learning to use tightening tension in their writing to help engage the reader and develop their narrative skills.

Mathematics

The students have been learning strategies to solve addition and subtraction questions and will begin learning about measurement and converting between units of measurement. This unit gives students the opportunity to practise their skills in a number of practical ways, such as measuring with trundle wheels, rulers, and measuring tapes.

Science

The students are continuing to investigate forces and functions. They have been questioning, exploring and experimenting with different types of forces including gravity and magnetism. They have enjoyed creating and participating in science experiments and writing conclusions for their findings.

Author Visit

Stage 2 was lucky to receive a visit from Irena Kobald, the author of My Two Blankets. The students enjoyed hearing about the inferred meanings throughout the text and within the illustrations. Students also had the opportunity to develop their understanding of the publishing process and to hear some translations of texts in action.
