Leadership Report

Welcome to our Week 4 Newsletter! With the blink of an eye, this school year is well underway, with students settled in classrooms and developing their routines for learning. Our Acquaintance Night in Week 3 was a fabulous opportunity to reconnect with families after the holidays, welcome new families to our school, and build the wonderful community we have at Magill School. As School Leaders, we often talk to prospective and future families about the community at Magill School in our School Tours. Being part of a school community is so much more than an education for your child, it's the relationships you and your children form during your time at the school and how these help to support students to learn and thrive as they grow throughout the years.

The potential seven years a student may spend here at Magill School is a large chunk of their lifetime of learning, growing, and developing their sense of self in the world. The old adage that it 'takes a village to raise a child' is never more important than in the current climate.

As parents, we lead busy lives, juggling multiple roles including employee, parent, child, caregiver, coach and much more. Our school community, and the partnerships we build with families, provide part of that important village. To support families and students through challenges, celebrate the wins, and help students navigate growing up in general. As educators, we are ever mindful that the students in our school are young individuals, engaged in a journey of learning, making mistakes, and building strategies for life.

While Acquaintance Night is fresh in your memory, we'd love your feedback so that we can put plans in place for 2025. If you could take 5 minutes to complete our short survey on the link here, we would greatly appreciate it.

Moving on to What's New...

Have you seen the new planting in the garden beds out the front of the Admin building facing Adelaide Street? Schona Murray and the Sustainability Action Team have been researching native local plants to reintroduce into our ecosystem, with the hope of encouraging wild life to venture onto our site. With the help of Jeremy from Greener Adelaide (and a parent at our school), Schona and the students have hand picked the plants, travelled near and far to find seedlings, and replanted in this area. In the coming weeks, you'll see signage go up to provide information on each plant. Please help us to encourage these plants to grow big and strong by not walking through the garden bed.

And finally, a reminder about the parking conditions on Adelaide Street. It's a busy area during the peak before and after school times, and we need to be respectful and vigilant.

  • The street is clearly marked 25kph when children are present, please monitor your speed and adhere to this.
  • Before and after school, there is no parking on Adelaide Street. You can park to let your child in or out of the car, and then move off safely. You cannot park and get out of the car. If your child is not waiting for you, you will need to drive around the block and try again.
  • DO NOT encourage your child to run onto the road and get into your car - this is very dangerous.
  • DO NOT use the Admin car park as a short cut - cars regularly enter and exit the car park accessing the disabled parking space.
