Wellbeing Day

A reminder that September 4th is Wellbeing Day. There will be no Morris classes running on this day.

Road Safety and Compliance

We have received a number of calls from members of the public who are concerned that cars waiting to get into the Primary Years’ Drive Through are backing up along Argyle street and blocking Boa Vista Road, so that cars cannot exit Boa Vista. Whilst we understand that drop off and pick up time is busy for everyone, it is neither safe nor courteous to other road users to block intersections and we would ask our families to avoid doing so. Keeping people safe around the School is everyone’s responsibility and modelling good road safety behaviour (as drivers and pedestrians) is an important example for our children to see.  For more information about traffic safety around the School, please visit our website.

Year 4 Outdoor Education Excursion - Climate and Coast

Friday 1 September

On Friday 1 September 4OA will be attending an Outdoor Education day with their class teacher and Outdoor Education Teacher, Lauren Stranger. The day's focus will be on climate and the impact it has on the coast and its species. We will begin at Seven Mile beach where the class will explore the coastline and discuss what we find and then walk over the headland to Roches Beach/Lauderdale and compare the different coastal environments.

Students need to come dressed in their sports uniform, including a warm jacket, beanie, and waterproof raincoat and comfortable shoes to walk in. They should bring a big lunch, lots of snacks and a full water bottle for the day.  Any personal medications should be labelled and given to the classroom teacher before departure. We will be returning to school at the end of the school day. Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

Year 5 Outdoor Education - Kunanyi/ Mt Wellington Bushwalk

5, 8, 15 September

In the coming weeks Year 5 students will be going on an Outdoor Education bushwalk on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The focus for the day is building resilience, working together as a team, exploring the varied ecosystems and learning about the Aboriginal history of the location. The walk will start at Shoebridge Bend and finish at The Springs via Sawmill and Organ Pipes Track. This is approximately 4km with some steep ascending. There is also a 2km route for those who may find the 4km option too challenging. Students will be required to wear warm sensible free dress clothing - long pants (no jeans), long t-shirt/ thermal, jumper, warm socks and appropriate bushwalking shoes. Students will also need to pack their day bag with a rain jacket, spare warm jacket/fleece, beanie, spare socks, plenty of food for lunch and snacks, a big drink bottle of water, and any personal medication. Each class will be attending on separate days:

Tuesday 5 September - 5HM

Friday 8 September - 5C

Friday 15 September - 5M

Kindergarten Earthcare Days - Lenah Valley

Mondays 11, 18 and 25 September

We are excited to continue travelling to Lenah Valley Linear Park for our extended Earthcare learning days on Mondays 1, 18  and 25 September. This will be an opportunity for children to further explore and expand the learning that has happened at our Earthcare site this year. On these days we will be leaving school on the bus at 9.30am and will return after 2.00pm. In preparation for this, please make sure that your child has in their school bags:

  • Rubbish-free lunch
  • Water bottle
  • Hat or beanie depending on the weather and UV forecast
  • Spare clothes (including socks and underwear)

Please also ensure that your child arrives at school no later than 9.15am so that we can leave on time. Please contact Michelle or Heidi if you have any questions.

Morris Reading Event - Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge

This is the final week of the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) and this week’s theme for our students is “What was a highlight of the PRC for you? Did you try different books, read somewhere unusual, try a different format, share a book with someone special, or something else?”. We would love to see some photos of our students participating in the PRC. If you have some that you are happy to share, please email them to us.

To let us know that your child completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge, you can use this online form or return your completed record sheets to the library. If your record-keeping was patchy, we are happy for you to estimate the total number of Twenties (twenty minute reading sessions) that were completed over the 10 weeks of the challenge. You can also email us directly. Thank you for supporting this reading event at Morris.
