Uniform Expectations

It's about this time of year that uniforms can become a little bit tardy and the high standards that we set at the start of each year begin to slip.  Our uniform expectations are framed in a way that seeks to have our students present themselves in a manner where they are considered a well dressed and well-groomed student of St Mary’s Catholic College. Modern fashion is constantly changing, and it is impossible to have an exhaustive list of what is possible when it comes to hairstyles and make up trends. We seek the support of parents and carers in checking the uniform of their young people as well as their grooming when they leave the house in the morning to ensure no make-up is being worn and hairstyles comply with College rules.

Student behaviour outside of school

The St Mary’s uniform is easily recognised and highly visible in the community and as a College we are highly regarded and well respected.  All members of our community have a right to benefit from our high standing in the community, but they also have a responsibility to behave in a manner that reflects the high standards and expectations we have as a College.  It has been disappointing that we have had a couple of incidents in recent weeks where student behaviour outside the College has been less than acceptable. All students have been reminded that when they are in their College uniform they are representing the College, regardless of the place or time and their behaviour is to be of the highest standard. We thank parents and carers for their support in this matter.

Attendance

I would ask parents and carers to challenge their young person next time they seek to have a day (time) off school as to whether it is really necessary – does it appear to be the same day every week or are they always missing Maths or English?  Individual student attendance is available through the parent portal.

Kind Regards
