Year 7/8 Football

Monivae College's 7/8 football team showcased an unparalleled level of skill and determination to take out the local competition against Baimbridge, THAC, Portland Secondary and finally Bayview in the Grand Final. The boys triumphed over every opponent they faced, only allowing one point to be scored against them for the entire competition. Their cohesiveness as a group was a highlight, and their ability to follow instructions made the day a success.

Star players for the day were Jett Lovell, Levi Templeton, Jobe Dunn, Justin Mutch, Hugh Prentice & Ryder Van Someren, however the entire team contributed to the dominant performance that was showcased.

Thanks to Craig Templeton & Damian Van Someren for assisting on the day.

Year 9/10 State Qualifying Football

On Thursday the 10th of August we had 23 very keen Year 9 and 10 footballers venture off to Marty Busch Reserve, Sebastopol, Ballarat to represent Monivae in the State Qualifying Football quarter and semi-finals. The day started with a quarter-final against Montmorency Secondary College, with the winner of that game to progress through to the semi-final against the winner of the other quarter-final match. Each of these games would go for a full 4 quarters, each of 15 minutes in length.

In typical Ballarat Winter style, the rain and cold temperatures greeted us making for a very wet and slippery contest particularly in the first half. We played a competitive style of football in the first quarter, taking it right up to Montmorency as we both had an even amount of possession and scoring opportunities. Although they started to get well on top in the second quarter, we were lucky to go in at half time down by only 12 points due to Montmorency’s inaccuracy in front of goal. In the second half Montmorency continued to improve and started to dominant the match even more. Sadly, despite our best efforts, the boys simply couldn’t match it with them, with the final score being 3.16 34 to 1.5 11, losing by 23 points. Klay Nicholls was the single goal kicker on the day.

Due to injuries and unavailability, we had 6 players out from the initial squad who had helped us progress and qualify through to this stage of the competition. Despite this, we were fortunate enough to add 4 players into the team who all slotted in well and performed a role. Some better players on the day included Angus Impey, Zac Elliot, Lachy Bourke, Xander Prentice, Tom Gordon, Klay Nicholls, Hayden Phillips and Jack Sobey. A big thanks to all the staff, players and parents who have helped out and contributed in any way across all three stages of competition.

The other Year 11/12 team, Monivae Blue, had a great day out winning all four of their games with some tough competition throughout the day. Year 7-10 Netball

Almost a week later on Wednesday the 26th, Monivae took two Year 7 /8 and two Year 9/10 teams to Padrina Park in Hamilton to compete for the day. The day consisted of seven games for the Year 7 and 8’s and six games for the Year 9 and 10’s being 8-minute halves with a minute break in between. The Year 7/ 8 teams started off the day playing each other with Monivae Blue beating Monivae Yellow. Monivae Blue 7/ 8 came away with five wins, one loss and a forfeit win due to Bayview leaving early for the day, and also going down to Saint Brigid’s College by 1. This ultimately lead the girls to be second on the ladder at the end of the day. While the other Year 7/ 8 team Monivae Yellow came away with four wins and three loses which was a great effort. This meant they finished fourth on the ladder. Overall, the Year 7/ 8 girls played great netball throughout the whole day.

The Year 9/10 girls also started off the day playing each other with Monivae Blue 9/10 beating Monivae Yellow 9/10. Monivae Blue 9/10 came away with four wins, a draw, and a forfeit win to Bayview due to them leaving early, the girls ultimately ended up on top of their ladder at the end of the day only by percentage due to their draw with Saint Brigid’s College, getting the girls through to state finals. While the other Year 9 and 10 team, Monivae Yellow, came away with three wins, two losses and a draw ultimately leaving the third on the ladder at the end of the day with excellent netball being played all throughout the day by both teams.

Monivae also has a Year 7 and 8’s boys team for the first time this year who are going straight to State Finals in Melbourne due to there not being enough teams for a local competition. Overall Monivae has three teams going to State Finals to compete which is a wonderful res
