New Sponsor - 6Hr Row (x4) - Level 6 Event
It is fantastic to have a local business sponsor this student initiative. Please welcome CLUB LIME in Scoresby, just next to the football ovals and tennis courts on Stud Road. Club Lime will be providing the 4 rowers for the 4 x 6hr row being held by the students on Friday 6 October. Great to have you on board.
This initiative by the Level 6 students is to support a really important charity, Gotcha4Life www.gotcha4life.org. This organisation supports initiatives around youth mental health, a very important issue right now.
Please support their initiative by donating to their cause. Encourage family and friends and businesses to support as well. Click on the QR code below or Jells Park PS Rowers - Gotcha4Life 24 Hour Row 2023 search for Jells Park PS Rowers, donate on the right side of the page. There is already $768 donated, however the boys target is $5000.
Changes in 2024
As part of the Victorian Government Schools Agreement in 2022 schools were required to provide teachers with an extra 1.5hrs planning and administration time. Most of this we absorbed in 2023, but the last portion of this agreement is to be implemented in 2024. The only way to do this is for us to create a '5th Specialist' time.
After extensive discussion with staff and consultation with School Council it has been agreed that in 2024 we will be adding Digital Tecnology for Levels 3-6 for an additional 55min per fortnight and including a Library specialist for Level F-2 for 55 min per fortnight. The Library Specialist time will have an additional focus on Chinese and Indigenous stories and history, in line with our current LOTE curriculum and the Marrung curriculum for indigenous inclusion.
Please contact me if you would like further information or discussion on these changes/additions.
Managing your Child's issues at School
When your child comes home and talks to you about an issue they are having at school, it is often an emotional and upsetting occasion for parents, whether it is large or small. While the best first response is to strategically talk on strategies to build resilience, please always ensure that you let the school know. Most issues can be managed by the classroom teacher, but you also have access to myself and Mrs Stewart for more serious issues and concerns.
Can I ask parent to please NOT take their issues and concerns directly to other students or parents. Approaching another parent, whether in the yard or by phone often results in poor outcomes and more distress to all parties. Can I also ask parents to refrain from commenting on their issues on social media - this is not productive and only results in agitation and distress for all parties.
School Holidays
Best wishes for a restful and happy holiday break and go DEES!
Thanks,

Continuum Tracker
The Continuum Tracker is available via the SENTRAL parent portal for all parents and guardians to see student progress for Term 3. Please note that green statements denote what your child has achieved independently, blue means working towards and black statements have not been addressed yet. The Continuum Tracker will be open for the school holidays and closes again at the start of Term 4 for teachers to use as part of their assessment and planning. An email was sent earlier in the week with instructions on how to access.
New local road rules
Monash council have been in touch with the school informing the intention to erect new 'No U-turn' signs in the surrounding streets, particularly Homestead Drive and Petronella Ave around the school. Please keep an eye out for these signs and most importantly drive carefully and considerately around the school to keep our students safe.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the holidays!
