PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

It was great to see our Basketball Teams get around each other and play friendly games at our Basketball Gala Day at MSAC. Our school took 13 year 3/4 teams and 3 year 5/6 teams to play against other schools. The students were very happy with many wins and only a few draws or loses. Overall, I was very proud of how whether a team member missed or made a shot someone was there to give them a supportive hand to say well done or it’s ok, you got this.

A huge THANK YOU to all the 3/4 and 5/6 Teachers, Aides and parents who made this day possible.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS NEWS

The students who qualified for the 2023 athletics team have all had a conversation with Ms Osman about the event/s they will compete in. The results from the South Melbourne Park Athletics Carnival in May as well as observations and results from PE lessons along with other events have been considered when forming the team. 

The events the children will compete in are: long Jump, triple jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, hurdles, discus, shot put and the baton relay.

Only one student from each school can enter each event at District Athletics and students can only compete in 2 events plus the relay.

Students will compete in the events according to their age group and their age is calculated as of 31 December 2023.

The age categories are:

8/9/10 year Boys & Girls

11 year Boys & Girls

12/13 year Boys & Girls

This means that if your child is born in the years 2015, 2014, 2013 they will compete in the 10 years and under age group. If they are born in the year 2012 they will compete in the 11 year old age group and if they are born in the year 2011 and 2010 they will compete in the 12/13 year age group.

If your child is part of the 2023 Athletics Team they would have had a conversation with Ms Osman and you would have received a Compass invitation for them to attend District on Wednesday 13th September at Lakeside Stadium.
