YEAR 5/6 NEWS

A VERY SPECIAL EVENT!

Three lucky SMPPS students, Jessica, Luke and Hieu, went to The State Library to have a 

morning with Andy Griffiths who is launching his new and last Storey Treehouse book, 

The 169 Storey Treehouse. To promote his new book they filmed a skit in which a library staff member steals the new book from Andy at the book launch. Hieu, Jessica and Luke ran around the library trying to catch the thief. 

It was an incredibly fun morning! Well done to the Hieu, Jessica and Luke - you were amazing cast members and Andy loved working with you. You may want to look out for the new book in our library with a special message from Andy himself!

YEAR 5/6 POETRY

The 5/6s have begun their unit of poetry. What better way to begin than having a classic ode! An ode is a lyrical poem that expresses the thoughts and feelings of an individual speaker. In classical times, odes were designed to be sung to music. We are learning the purpose and craft of what makes a good ode. Students were tasked to think of a particular food to create an ode to. Have a look at their first initial attempts! We are looking forward to the progress they’ll in poetry over the next few weeks.
