INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS
Hello SMPPS families.
The fortnight has gone so quickly. We have wrapped up the Family in Focus sessions this week – it was a really great opportunity to see how schools and community services collaborate to deliver meaningful experiences for families. We also had Chrissie Davies the Chaos to Calm behaviour expert work with parents and staff to share her knowledge of the ‘why’ of behaviours and supportive approaches to supporting our children through emotional distress. She used the term co-regulation and at the staff session shared an excellent excerpt of Puss In Boots which gives a fantastic example of how just being present and calm with someone can support them to co-regulate. We can often fall into ‘fix it’ mode when a child is in distress and this idea of co-regulation is a great example of another way of responding.
I will be using the next few newsletter articles to draw more explicit connections to the school re-engagement process which has been introduced across the school this year with examples that can be used at home and school. Here are some photos of the process in use in the Spanish classroom!
Have a lovely fortnight!
