LEARNER CELEBRATION

What a wonderful week we have had, celebrating students being great learners after filling up the learner token box as part of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS). We celebrated on Wednesday with a free dress day, and it was great to see so many students in green and gold to celebrate the achievements of the Matildas!

GATEWAYS

On Wednesday 2nd July, four students in Year 2 went to an extra-curricular program called Gateways. The day was held at a local school and focused on Mathematics! This is what the students had to say about it:

During the day, we had the challenge to catch and put villains in jail, using maths clues and evidence that we learned over the day. First, we learnt about the word palindromes and then about Maths sums that can also be palindromes. Next, we learnt about hexes, binaries and Roman numerals. We also had another challenge to get out of the computer by getting through doors with questions and using a dictionary to crack a code!

We also did a scavenger hunt looking for letters and a key. Finally, we found the key in a book and the villains were sent to jail! We had to do lots of challenging operations over the day.

Our favourite bits were putting the villains in jail, the scavenger hunt, cracking the code and learning about binary.

SUPPORTING OUR MATILDAS

Klemens in Year 2 has written a letter to the Matildas after their amazing World Cup campaign so far.  It has been wonderful to see the Milgate Community come together along with the whole country in supporting them.

ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE

Congratulations to 1MC for being this week’s trash free Tuesday winner and having 1 piece of trash! They will receive ’Ernie the Earth’ our environmental mascot. Overall as a school we got 280 pieces of trash. Keep up the great work. We are looking forward to seeing a reduced amount of trash around the school!

BOOK WEEK

Get Ready for an Eco-Conscious and Culturally Enriching Book Week Celebration!

Excitement is building as we approach Book Week, scheduled for Week 7 from the 21st to the 25th of August. This year, our celebration is taking on a wonderful eco-conscious perspective, promising a week filled with creativity, learning, and global connections.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we're inviting students and families to embrace the eco-conscious spirit by upcycling, recycling, and reusing materials to craft unique book character dress-ups. This creative challenge encourages resourcefulness and environmental responsibility while celebrating the magic of literature.

Book Character Dress-Up Parade: Don't miss one of the highlights of the week, the Book Character Dress-Up Parade, scheduled for the 24th of August at 2:40pm. Students will proudly showcase their eco-friendly and imaginative costumes, portraying characters from their favourite books. Parents and guardians are invited to join us to witness this vibrant display of creativity.

Alongside our eco-conscious focus, we are celebrating the richness of our diverse community. Parents were invited to read to our students in various languages, emphasising the importance of cultural understanding and linguistic diversity. This unique opportunity to share stories from around the world will enhance our students' appreciation for different cultures and experiences.

Classroom Activities: Throughout the week, teachers will guide students through thought-provoking discussions, creative projects, and collaborative learning experiences that foster a deep connection to literature and the world around us.

Author Visit: We are thrilled to announce that acclaimed author and illustrator Marc Martin will be visiting our Foundation to Year 2 students on the 22nd August. Through his captivating storytelling and vibrant illustrations, Marc will transport our young readers on imaginative journeys that ignite curiosity and a lifelong love for the written word.

How You Can Get Involved:

  • Eco-Friendly Costumes: Begin collecting recyclable materials to create imaginative book character costumes with your child. This activity is a fantastic way to reinforce the importance of environmental responsibility.
  • Join the Parade and Activities: Mark your calendar for the 24th of August and be ready to join the Book Character Dress-Up Parade. Stay connected with your child's teacher for updates on classroom activities throughout the week.

We are so grateful for our wonderful Milgate community and thank everyone for their open-mindedness and commitment to sustainable practices at Milgate Primary School. We cannot wait to see our students next week and view the amazing costumes they have all created!
