PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Possum Magic

On Tuesday our Grade 1/2 students ventured to the Hamilton PAC to see a performance of ‘Possum Magic’.  This was a highly enjoyable show for all of our students and staff who attended.  Pleasingly, I’m told the way our students behaved and were engaged in the performance was a real standout amongst all in attendance.  It is great to be able to provide our students with additional opportunities such as this, even better when told they have been outstanding ambassadors for our school – well done to all!

Puberty Education

On Monday our senior students had Stu and Jenaye from the Western District Health Service come to visit to discuss puberty education as a part of the Health curriculum.  Firstly our combined grade 5/6 cohort sat in together for a general health development overview.  The second part of these information sessions involved splitting the grade 6 boys and girls into gender based groups, where Stu (boys) and Jenaye (girls) for more personalised discussions specific to each gender.  This topic of learning can often be quite confronting for some, however it is extremely important that children learn the right information, at the right stage of their age-appropriate learning development, from trained professionals.  The students are to be commended for the mature way they involved themselves in these sessions and we thank Stu and Jenaye for coming along to deliver this area of the curriculum to our students.

Blue Sky Dance Incursion

As previously written, throughout terms 2 and 3 our students in the grades 3 to 6 classes have been participation in the ‘Blue Sky Dance Program’, delivered by Ausdance through a grant we received from the Department of Education.  This has involved the online delivery of dance classes, with an in-person session also provided to our students each term.  On Wednesday we had Dr Katrina Rank, developer of the program visit our school to deliver the final session of the program for our students.  There was a whole lot of energy on display in the library by our students, applying a range of dance skills and techniques throughout the session.  This program has been highly enjoyable for our students, not only strengthening our delivery of the Physical Education curriculum and teaching the kids a range of new skills, but also having a lot of fun!

AFL 9’s Footy

Today we have had two boys and a girls team represent our school in the local AFL 9’s Football competition.  Details of the day were not available at the time of publishing and a full report will be provided in the newsletter next week.

Parent Opinion Survey

Access details to the Parent Opinion Survey was sent out to all families a couple of weeks ago and at present we have only had 4 out of our 181 families (2%) complete this survey.  We would really like all families to take this opportunity to have your say – please set aside some time and complete this survey for us by the closing deadline of next Friday 8th September.
