SEPS Parents and Other Spectators Code of Conduct
At Sandringham East Primary School, we are committed to fostering a positive, respectful, and supportive sporting environment for all students. Parents and spectators play an important role in modelling appropriate behaviour and upholding our school values.
The following standards of behaviour are expected at all school sporting events, training sessions, and competitions:
a) Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour at all times. Do not use foul language or harass players, coaches, officials, students, or other spectators.
b) Remember that our students participate in organised sport for enjoyment, learning, and personal development. They are not playing solely for the entertainment of spectators, nor are they miniature professionals.
c) Ensure your behaviour supports and enhances students’ enjoyment of the game.
d) Applaud good performances and efforts by both our team and the opposition. Congratulate all teams on their efforts, regardless of the result.
e) Respect the decisions of officials and staff. If there is a concern, follow the appropriate school or sport procedures to raise the matter respectfully. Model this behaviour so students learn to do the same.
f) Never ridicule or criticise a student for making a mistake during competition. Positive and constructive encouragement is motivating and builds confidence.
g) Condemn the use of violence in any form, whether by spectators, coaches, officials, or players.
h) Show respect for opposing teams and schools. Without them, there would be no game.
i) Encourage students to play according to the rules and to respect officials’ decisions.
j) Behave respectfully across all forms of communication, including social media, email, instant messaging, and text messages, particularly when referencing school events or individuals connected to Sandringham East Primary School.
k) Act with courtesy and consideration at all times. Violence, bullying, verbal intimidation, offensive or abusive behaviour, and harassment are not acceptable under any circumstances.
