Principal's Message

Dear Families,

We have had an amazing fortnight here at Our Lady’s, filled with moments to celebrate and opportunities to strengthen our sense of community.

Last week, we gathered for our Beginning of Year Mass - a reflective and joy‑filled start to 2026 - followed by a picnic on the school grounds. With over half of our families attending, the school was buzzing with energy and connection. For families who weren’t able to join us, our community made sure no one felt left out, drawing students together in groups to chat, play, and share stories. I especially enjoyed hearing from parents who appreciated the chance to spend time with their child’s friends. Coming along to events like these gives you a glimpse into the real secret behind Our Lady’s: a strong, close, and supportive community where everyone is welcomed. Many thanks must go to Mrs. Griffin who co-ordinated and led this wonderful event for us all to enjoy!

On Tuesday, we gathered for our Shrove Tuesday Breakfast. This much‑loved annual event always brings smiles to everyone’s faces as we enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast together. Shrove Tuesday traditionally marks a time of preparation before the beginning of Lent, and sharing this meal as a school reminds us of the importance of community, gratitude, and coming together in simple, joyful ways. Our students and staff certainly embraced the spirit of the day - there’s something special about starting the morning surrounded by happy chatter, sticky fingers, and the smell of freshly cooked pancakes!

Yesterday, our students in Grades 1–4 attended Mass at the local Parish to participate in the Ash Wednesday liturgy. As always, they represented our school beautifully. Many parishioners commented on how reverent, respectful, and prayerful our students were throughout the celebration. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent - a season inviting us to simplify our lives, make space for prayer, show compassion to others, and look for ways to make the world around us kinder and more just. It was wonderful to see our students engaging so meaningfully with this important time in our Church year.

Yesterday our Grade 5/6 Holmes‑Brown class headed off on a special adventure to Borambola in NSW. From all accounts, the children have been having an amazing time. So far, they have taken part in kayaking, pool games, a mini‑Olympics, BMX riding, and of course, the much‑anticipated mud run. The campers are expected to return by 4:00pm on Friday, and we can’t wait to hear all the stories and see the smiles when they arrive back at school.
