Principal Message

Dear Families,

Learning Time: A friendly reminder that instruction time begins at 9am daily and Ocean Grove PS is committed to maximising learning time and maintaining calm, learning-focused classrooms. When students arrive late to class, they miss valuable instructions, which can place them at a disadvantage for the remainder of the lesson. Late arrivals can also disrupt the flow of learning for other students and interrupt the instructions teachers are delivering.

We have a range of strategies to support students and families to develop the skills and habits that promote punctuality. These include:

  • Environmental cues, such as music played three minutes before the bell, to signal the start of class, followed by the bell.
  • Additional wellbeing, and education support staff positioned around classrooms at the start of the day and during transitions to assist students
  • Clear, calm, and consistent classroom entry routines, with teachers meeting students at the door
  • Visual timetables and other adjustments to support students with additional needs

We understand that sometimes your child may need an extra few minutes to get ready to begin their learning and hope families can continue to prepare children for the day ahead.

Colour Run Funds spent: This week we saw the new drink taps installed near the Year 1 classrooms. They look fantastic and are a great spot to refill drink bottles too. This would not have happened without the community support at the Colour Run last year. A special thanks to Mrs Stanley, Mr Marsay and Mrs Lowery for running the event and a bigger thanks to the students and families for raising the money to improve this facility. Many students have already requested more of the same drink taps at the other end of the walkway too! Perhaps we go again for the 2026 Colour Run???

Student Engagement & Wellbeing Policy: OGPS is committed to creating a supportive learning environment and recently we updated some of the frameworks in our SW&E policy. We hope families will take a few moments to look over the work we have captured and planned to implement in this policy to continually build a great learning environment. There are clear expectations on students, staff, and families. Feel free to discuss this with your children at home too.

Enjoy the rest of the week.
