Junior Sports Report
Mr Kade Stevens - Junior School Sports Coordinator
On 23 February, CIS students travelled to The King’s School in Parramatta to compete in the RAS Tennis Trials. Eight students from the Riverina region attended, including Trinity representatives Sonny Thorneycroft and Bella Doolan, who were accompanied by Mrs McAinsh as the CIS delegate.
Both Trinity students were outstanding representatives of the College, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. The competition was exceptionally strong, with some pools featuring the top-ranked players in NSW. Bella and Sonny played some impressive tennis and embraced the valuable opportunity to represent the Riverina at such a high level.

In Term 2, Mrs McAinsh will share expressions of interest for Todd Woodbridge Cup tennis via the Trinity App.
The Todd Woodbridge Cup is a primary school competition for stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) and stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) that uses modified equipment, numeric scoring and mixed gender teams.
The competition commences with school zone events followed by regional playoffs (Term 3) and finally a state final that is held at Sydney Olympic Park each year (Term 4).
The Todd Woodbridge Cup is not just about selecting the best students, but encouraging participation, providing a positive experience playing tennis, growing friendships and giving students the opportunity to represent their school in a team environment. For the majority of students, this may be their first experience representing their school.
Keep your eye on the Trinity App for updates!
Over the past two days, we have had numerous students from the Junior and Senior School compete at the Scots Interschool Equestrian Challenge. We thank Mrs Jacobs for committing her time to this event and look forward to an update after the event.
Well done to the following students - Abigail Barnett, James Barnett, Emily Colquhoun, Ava Dallinger, Blair Goonan, Kyla Goonan, Charlotte Gordon, Bella Jacobs, Mya Jacobs and Saoirse Noonan.
Congratulations to our 26 swimmers who attended the RAS Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 4 March. Trinity did an amazing job all day, completing with pride and enthusiasm.
Another huge congratulations goes out to Briella Weddall for not only finishing the day as the 11 Year old girls Aged Champion, but for also breaking two records in the following events.
There was outstanding swimming on display throughout the carnival, with students stepping up to fill events and form relay teams, ensuring Trinity was strongly represented across the board. Their collective effort placed us in an excellent position, resulting in the Boys Overall Champion School trophy and Runner-Up Overall School.
Congratulations to Lulu Collins, who was in Sydney today representing RAS at the NSW CIS Basketball trials.
Lulu competed against students from independent schools across the state for the opportunity to be selected in the CIS team.
We look forward to hearing how you went Lulu!

From Wednesday’s RAS Swimming Carnival, 16 of our star swimmers have qualified for the CIS Swimming Championships, to be held at the Sydney Olympic Park on Wednesday 25 March.
By now, you will have received a Consent to Go email with more information about this event and what the next steps are for you. Congratulations to all of these students.

Selection Objective
Trinity Anglican College supports the nomination of students with potential in their chosen sport(s). The College believes that the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) pathway provides an ideal opportunity for high-achieving athletes. Due to the objectives and standard of CIS representative teams, Trinity will only nominate students who have a realistic opportunity to be considered for selection in the respective CIS team.
Eligibility for Selection
Students must be current students of Trinity Anglican College. Students must fall within the age group outlined for each sport. Parents must be prepared to organise the transport and accommodation for their child and pay the nomination fee (which is non-refundable). CIS nominations will be based on clear criteria, which is communicated to all students and parents prior to the nomination date, and once parents/students have initially expressed their interest.
The Junior School Sport Coordinator (Mr Kade Stevens) will make the nomination on the student’s and College’s behalf, with no late entries accepted.
Required Information
Students/Parents are to provide all of the following information, which is required to complete a student’s CIS nomination. This information will also be used to assess the eligibility for nomination:

In the process of assessing your child’s eligibility for nomination, information may be sought by the Junior School Sport Coordinator or from other College staff who have relevant experience and/or knowledge of the student in the nominated sport. If necessary, the College may organise a trial/training session for students prior to nomination.
Criteria for Nomination
Trinity College supports the aims of the CIS by providing a pathway to State and National level competition in a wide variety of sports for students in the independent school sector. The following areas of performance are to be considered:
1. Skills exhibited by the player
2. Fitness level exhibited by the player
3. Performance of the player as a member of a team (sportsmanship/values)
4. Attitude and behaviour of the player both on and off the court/field
5. Positions played
6. Representative experience in the nominated sport(s).
Nomination decisions will be based mainly on performance, however the following will also be considered:
1. Attendance at competition, training and club/team events (commitment)
2. Academic commitment
In addition, students:
1. Will be nominated on their performance, commitment, values and behaviour, not their personal characteristics or attributes.
2. May be precluded from selection if there is a concern about their ability to compete safely or if their participation poses a risk to others.
Below is a table with some upcoming trial dates. Please note, the CIS website currently has many sports that have not finalised their dates and locations yet. If your sport is missing from the table below, it means there are no details on the website. I will continue to monitor the CIS website and provide you with an updated table in each newsletter for the remainder of the term. I anticipate that the CIS calendar will be finalised in the next week or so.
