Classroom Reports

Foundation
Although we were unable to access the small pool at our recent swimming sports, that certainly didn’t stop the fun! A big thank you to Mr Forrest, who organised fantastic water games to keep everyone smiling and active. The children had a wonderful time with water balloons, rubber ducks to collect, and water guns — there was plenty of laughter and excitement during the afternoon!
In Literacy, we have been enjoying the delightful story The Sunflower That Went Flop. The children were very engaged in the story and loved discussing how Mr Brown fixed it. We have also planted some sunflower seeds. Hope the sunflowers don’t go flop!
In Maths, we have been using our superhero eyes to ‘see’ numbers on a dice rather than counting the dots. We will be looking at ‘seeing’ irregular patterns of numbers as well.
We also continue to enjoy a variety of picture story book, especially about cats. The children are becoming very confident at predicting what a story might be about by looking at the title and illustrations before we begin reading.
Cheers
Mrs Tanya, Classroom Teacher
Year 1 & 2A
We have had a wonderful start to the year in 1/2A. Students have settled in well as we practise our classroom routines and expected behaviours each day. It has been great to see everyone working hard and supporting one another as we begin the year together. I am very excited for the year ahead!
In Literacy, we have begun our new phonics program and students are becoming more confident with how it works each lesson. We have also been practising making predictions before reading, using clues from the title, pictures, and our prior knowledge.
In Maths, we are currently learning about whole numbers and building our understanding through hands-on activities and games.
In Inquiry, we have been working alongside the other 1/2 class to explore feelings, emotions, and important milestones in our lives. Students have been enjoying sharing their ideas and learning more about themselves and others.
Coming up: School photos — Friday 20th, please remember to wear full school uniform

Year 3/4
Year 3/4 are off to a flying start to 2026! Students have been excellent at remembering and following classroom expectations and routines, well done!
Homework will be given to students each Tuesday, they will have until the following Tuesday to return these back to school. This homework will mostly be maths activities with sometimes a little bit of literacy, please reach out to Mr Campbell if you have any questions regarding this.
Swimming sports was a success for 3/4! Students who attended all wore house colours and participated in the pool. Go Ansett!!
Just a reminder to ensure your child is writing in their diary each night the book they are reading and it is ticked off by a parent/guardian.
The support this class has received from families to start off the year has not gone unnoticed, thank you all so much for your help and continued support!

Year 5 & 6
We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year in 5/6B. The students have settled in extremely well and are already showing a strong understanding of our classroom expectations and routines. It has been wonderful to see the way they support one another and approach their learning with such positivity.
The recent swimming sports was a highlight for many students. It was fantastic to see so many students proudly dressed in their house colours and getting involved in the events throughout the day. The participation, encouragement and team spirit on display were outstanding. Whether competing in races or cheering from the sidelines, students represented the class with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship.
We are looking forward to continuing this positive momentum throughout the term.

MY9 Camp – Hopetoun (Week 2, Term One)
In Week 2 of Term One, our MY9 students headed off to Hopetoun for their annual camp, and what a fantastic experience it was. Over the week, students took part in a range of activities including canoeing on the lake, swimming at the local pool, and a creative tie-dye activity that allowed everyone to get hands-on and express themselves.
The group also enjoyed an excursion to Sea Lake, where they visited the breathtaking Lake Tyrrell and viewed the famous Sea Lake Silo Art, giving students the opportunity to appreciate both the natural environment and local culture.
Throughout the camp, students demonstrated outstanding resilience, respect, and responsibility. Whether they were trying new challenges, supporting their peers, or representing the school in the community, the staff could not have asked for a better result.
Miss Van De Wetering and Miss Piccoli were extremely proud of the way the students conducted themselves and are very excited about what this Year 9 cohort will bring to the MY9 program throughout the year. It was a highly successful camp and a wonderful start to the students’ MY9 journey.
Thank you
Sophia Piccoli & Emily Van De Wetering
Year 10
Our Year 10 students have had a fantastic and active start to the term! They showed wonderful school spirit at the Swimming Sports, enthusiastically cheering on competitors and supporting one another from the sidelines. Back in homeroom, students have been building connection and belonging through our morning circle, taking time to check in, reflect and set positive intentions for the day.
They have also been focusing on their future pathways, working with Robyn Vella to develop skills and confidence for the workplace. From exploring career options to preparing for professional environments, our Year 10 cohort continues to demonstrate maturity, teamwork and a strong commitment to making the most of every opportunity.

Week 4 Already?!
How is it Week 4 already? The term is flying by, and there have already been some big events over the past couple of weeks.
A big thank you to Mrs Woodman, Mrs Barker and Mrs Postle for the VCE Information Night. It was a fantastic opportunity for students and families / caregivers to gain a clearer understanding of the year ahead. Don’t forget to read through your booklet carefully, sign the required forms, and return them promptly.
Camp notices have now gone out — we’re looking forward to heading off to Torquay in Week 7 (Wednesday to Friday). It promises to be a fantastic few days together.
A huge congratulations to everyone for their efforts at the Swimming Sports. It was great to see students getting involved and showing plenty of house spirit. Congratulations to Aidan and Kayla on their Age Group Champion wins, and well done to Ansett for winning the first House event of the year. Best of luck to those heading to Boort to compete at the NCD level — we’ll be cheering you on!
Special thanks to those students who jumped in the water to support our younger students throughout the day. Never underestimate the example you set — your leadership and support were noticed and appreciated.
Of course, a day like this doesn’t happen without a lot of organisation. A massive thank you to our PE team — Miss M, Mr P and Mr McCallum — for their planning and coordination, along with the VM students who also played a key role in helping the day run smoothly.
It’s been a fantastic start to the year. Let’s make sure we maintain the momentum and keep building on it.
Mr G’s Study Tip — Stay Ahead
Don’t wait for the next SAC to start studying.
Spend 20–30 minutes each week reviewing your notes, completing a couple of practice questions, or summarising a topic you’ve covered. Staying slightly ahead reduces stress and builds real confidence.
Small effort. Consistent habits. Big results.

A great time to be at Wedderburn College
Over the past two weeks, our school community has been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to see the outstanding effort from our Year 12 students and the commitment they have shown, not just to their studies, but also the extra-curricular events happening. As Home Room teachers we are very proud of the positive involvement, organisation and maturity students have demonstrated in settling into the year so successfully.
Last week was particularly eventful and highlighted the strong partnership between school and families. Our VCE Information Evening was very well attended, reflecting the dedication of students and their significant adults in planning and preparing for the important year ahead. The high level of engagement and thoughtful questions asked on the evening showed a genuine commitment to achieving personal bests this year.
We also came together for a whole-school Assembly featuring our Student Leadership Investiture. It was inspiring to officially recognise our student leaders as they accepted their responsibilities and committed to serving our school community. We look forward to the positive influence they will have throughout the year.
To round out the week, our Swimming Carnival was a fantastic celebration of house spirit and participation. A special mention must go to our Year 12 students, who worked tirelessly to build enthusiasm, encourage involvement and ensure the day was inclusive and enjoyable for all. Their leadership and energy set the tone for a wonderful event filled with participation, teamwork and school pride.
Study & Wellbeing Tip:As the term gathers pace, now is the perfect time for students to establish consistent study routines. Short, focused study sessions (25–30 minutes) followed by a 5-minute break can significantly improve concentration and retention. Just as importantly, maintaining balance is key — regular sleep, staying hydrated and taking time to be active all contribute to stronger learning outcomes. Small, consistent habits now will make a big difference as the term progresses.
Thank you to our staff and students for making the start of the year such a positive one. We look forward to building on this strong foundation in the weeks ahead.
PS - Don’t forget to get your camp notices back to the office and organise your payment.

Food Studies
Year 1 / 2 Food Studies & Health
What a great couple of weeks we have had, reminding ourselves about the importance of washing hands, especially when handling food, and the importance of healthy eating to keep us well.
The students washed their hands with glitter to see how germs can stay around even when we think we have washed our hands. So, it is important to always use soap to get really clean.
We created healthy plates, which also included sometimes food, and the students showed they knew what we had to eat a lot of and what was just a little.
Our first prac was Fruit Skewers, where students were able to try fruit they haven’t tasted before. We ended up with a lot of pineapple faces. Get the students to show you what we mean by that!
Careers
"Congratulations to Ella Gleisner on being awarded the Nutrien Ag x NCLLEN Scholarship.
Ella recently attended an afternoon in Boort with the Nutrien team, facilitated by North Central LLEN. She participated in a panel discussion with a local agronomist, Mikaela, stock agents Jim and Zak and the Branch Manager, Cam. The session provided valuable insight into the diverse career pathways available and opportunities within Nutrien Ag.
Well done Ella on this fantastic achievement.
