Remembering David Peckham

As a staff community, we came together on Tuesday to remember Mr David Peckham, on what would have been his 50th birthday. The staff enjoyed a curry lunch – David's favourite! His significant contribution to the Clayfield College community will always be cherished.

Term 3 Class Leaders Return of Badge

R U OK? Day

This Thursday, the College was awash with yellow as we came together to recognise R U OK? Day. Held annually in September this National Day of Action encourages meaningful conversations about mental health.  The organisation seeks to empower and provide tools to facilitate connections with those who may be struggling.

Students donned their best yellow accessories as a visual symbol of their support and commitment. During Personal Development and Wellbeing and Foundation lessons, students further engaged with age-appropriate activities designed to upskill them in all aspects of checking in with their friends, actively listening and where to find support.

To round it off, and put these newfound skills into action, students came together at morning tea and lunch for a fun, musical game of conversation starters. Shared passions, fun facts and excited chatter filled the air as students took the opportunity to extend beyond their cohorts and converse with a wide range of their peers.

As the saying goes, every day is R U OK? Day and we encourage every member of our College community, to continue fostering connections through conversations and check-ins. A timely reminder that if you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to their Core Teacher, College Counsellor or any other trusted member of staff.

2025 Schoolbox Meetup Conference

Last week, three representatives from Clayfield College attended the annual Schoolbox Meetup conference in Melbourne. The two-day event brought together schools from across Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and the wider Asia–Pacific region, creating a valuable opportunity to strengthen networks and share best practice in digital learning and school operations.

The conference featured a wide range of workshops and panel discussions exploring how technology continues to shape modern schools.

Key sessions included:

  • Building Bridges Between Parents, Leaders and Students
  • Planning Quality Curriculum Frameworks
  • AI in Education
  • Maintaining Privacy in Pastoral Care and Streamlining Action Systems

Clayfield College was proudly represented by Mrs Lauren Coote, Mr Sri Pogaku and Mr Jacques Stemmet. We extend a special thanks to Clayfield College for its ongoing investment in staff development and operational digital systems. This commitment ensures that our community remains at the forefront of innovation, and we continue to uphold our commitment to enhancing teaching, learning, and wellbeing for all students.

Year 4 Service-Learning Project

On Friday 29 August, Mrs Lisa Curtis from the Nawarddeken Academy in Mamadawerre, NT, situated approximately seven hours south of Darwin, visited our Year 4 students to share what life is like in a remote independent indigenous school compared to an independent metropolitan school.

The students enjoyed learning about life in a remote community, where a billabong containing a crocodile, backs onto the teachers' houses. The closest Woolworths is a plane ride away and roads are cut off for many months of the year. A plane arrives every two weeks, weather dependent, with basic groceries.

Our intention is to set up a relationship where we can share experiences through letters and video conferencing and send care packages to the students (handballs, basic toiletries, hair scrunchies, etc). It is the school's 10th birthday anniversary this year, so we would call these Birthday Boxes!

Our Design Technology project is to create a toy, so we intend to send these finished products also. Eventually, Lisa would like to create a library at the school as it has no provision for this currently. We would help by sending students' second-hand books.
