Junior School Council report the School Council
Junior School Council present a report the School Council at the beginning of each meeting. We encourage the students to attend in person but this is not always possible. This time the students overcame this hurdle by sending us a video. (2025/09/10)

Night of Music 2025 - from the students
We are so proud of our Corelli Strings, Choir and Orchestra students who gave a wonderful performance at the Night of Music last Saturday night. Let’s hear from some of the students:

I play in the Corelli Strings, and we recently played in the Night of Music!!! The performance took place at the Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School, Performing Arts Centre. Our conductor was, (drumroll please) Margaret!!! She gave us a feel for what was happening, by letting us go onto the stage before the audience pooled in. We also took the opportunity to practice a song. My favourite song is Russian Dance, because it starts at a snail pace, but it slowly speeds up to a lightning fast speed-demon song!!! I also like Siberian Shivers because of all the ‘shivers’ which are tremolos. We also played Scooter Ride, and Lazy Sundays. After we finished playing the pieces, we went backstage to put away our violins, cellos, and double bases. Then, we got to watch the rest of the performance with the audience. The Orchestra, the Choir and then the Junior Strings of Banyule all played magnificently before the finale where the choir sang ‘This is Me!’ with the orchestra, which was awesome.

Hi IPS,
My name is Charlie and I am going to be telling you about my experience at The Night of Music. I found it very fun to sing on stage as I was in the Choir, although I was very nervous before I went on stage. We sung three songs altogether which included This Pretty Planet, Count On Me and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman. Because the theatre is only small, I found my parents easily. I liked how we were allowed to have food and play card games while we waited for the show to start after our last rehearsal on the stage. Whilst we were eating, one of the adult helpers even gave us a quiz. I also enjoyed sitting in our special Choir seats after we performed. We watched the IPS and other local orchestras play. It was incredible. A big thankyou to Miss Green and Margaret for organising the event and teaching me so much. Overall, I loved the Night and I’m definitely joining the Choir again next year.

On Saturday we performed at A Night of Music. First we had a sound check, then after that we waited until it was show time! It was a lot of fun and exciting and scary.
First up, Corelli Strings played - my favourite song to play was Siberian Shivers.
Then it was choir’s turn - my favourite song to sing was Count on me.
Next was our Ivanhoe Primary School Orchestra who played great!
Then the Robertson String Orchestra and the Junior Strings of Banyule had their turns. I was wow’d by their talent.
To end the night, our Ivanhoe Primary School Choir performed This is Me with Junior Strings of Banyule and the Robertson String Orchestra. I was proud of how well we sang and played together.
I was amazed by all our talents coming together to create a spectacular Night of Music.
Luciano (4F – Corelli Strings & Choir)
The Night of Music was held on the 6th of September at the performing arts centre at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. We had a blast, it is so exciting sitting in the audience and watching the other performers play and playing my violin in the Orchestra. Some IPS students were in the Orchestra or Corelli Strings and the Choir, so they were very busy. The Junior Strings of Banyule and the Robinson String Orchestra also played and it was great to hear them. The highlight was the Orchestra playing and the finale which was This Is Me, with the Choir and Junior Strings of Banyule. Lots of performers went to get ice cream after the concert!
Arthur (5R - Orchestra)
Hi All, my name is Ashley Luo. I am so proud to be part of IPS orchestra and Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra. This was a truly spectacular show! I am extremely thrilled for the music presented. Seeing the large crowd, it was quite scary and daunting. But as soon as I got into the flow of the music, everything eased up and the concert slipped past my fingers. I would like to thank the people who made it possible, the conductors, Margaret and Sonja, the teachers for arranging this special event. And audiences for coming to support us.
Ashley L (5T – Orchestra, JSB & RSO)
Last Saturday was the night we were all waiting for! After practicing for weeks, it has all paid off. Junior Strings of Banyule, Robertson String Orchestra and Ivanhoe Primary School performed beautifully that night. I had so much fun singing in the choir (my favourite song being This Is Me because of the many harmonies and specific parts for grade 6's) with my friends and kind teacher Mrs Green. Some of the songs played and sung include: This pretty planet, Flowers, Count on me, Charlie and the chocolate factory medley and so many more! My favourite song that was played was the song with percussion and sound effects. Thank you, Ivanhoe Girls Grammar, for letting us perform in your school, Margaret and Mrs Green for helping us prepare, all the parents who came and Lily for being our solo in This Is Me.
Aryana L (6H - Choir)
From the moment I stepped in to the moment I stepped out was indescribably breathtaking. I was first greeted by a friendly string teacher and then directed upstairs to the orchestra room, where I then unpacked and got my cello tuned by another string teacher. I played a card game with my friends until we then had to go rehearse in the astounding auditorium. We went back up to pass time until the performance started at 7:00. We first enjoyed the songs the Corelli strings performed and then were greeted by the Choir as they made their way to the stage. After that it was the orchestra’s turn to perform. We went upstairs and grabbed our instruments then was greeted by thunderous applause from the crowd. We played our three songs: Fury, End Pin Rag and Fantasy on a Japanese Folksong. Once we had put our instruments away, we enjoyed the songs performed by the JSB and the ROH. It had been an eventful night, and every moment was thrilling. This truly was a Night of Music.
