Congratulations to the following students on receiving their SILVER awards this fortnight!

3A - Amelia Thompson & Parker Richards

What's happening in the classrooms this fortnight?

Literacy: We think the feeling is the same across the year level, although we have LOVED delving into the story of Iron Man by Ted Hughes, the students have been SO excited to learn how this story ends. We have covered so many different areas of learning and the novel has helped us guide our lessons in sentence structure, grammar and vocabulary. Not long ago we also made 3D models of Iron Man which took lots of perseverence and paitence! They are hanging in the BER building! Come and check them out!

Numeracy: Last week our students revelled in the chance to consolidate their knowledge of 3D shapes. This involved using match sticks and playdough to create models and 'nets'. The matchsticks worked as the edges and the playdough as the vertices. The students loved the challenge of making the shapes! Check them out below!

Inquiry:  We wrapped up our science unit 'Solids and Liquids'! We completed our lessons by learning new vocabulary such as 'melting point' and 'freezing point'. We learned that items can melt depending on the heat applied and that some items will melt quickly with heat applied and some not at all! We made predictions about what we thought would happen and learned that two teaspoons of candle wax takes 6 minutes and 32 seconds to melt but takes an hour and a half to solidify and freeze again to a solid! We have also made a reflection in our inquiry books with all the facts and new information we have learned.

  • Hazel - I liked looking through the microscopes at the jelly beans!
  • Ebony - My favourite experiment was watching the different materials melting on the hot plate.
  • Marley - I liked watching the wax melt and then predicting how long it would take to go back to being a solid.
  • Jaxon - I liked watching the items melt on the pan
  • Narah - I liked looking through the microscope at the sprinkles because they looked like big gum balls.
  • Judd - I liked learning that many solids can melt into a liquid.

Wellbeing: This fortnight we will be finishing our unit on Personal and Cultural strengths. This unit has been about using our personal strengths to extend respect to our peers, other cultures and to First Nations peoples. The students have been identifying their strengths and discussing how we can use them day to day. We have also been covering our school wide expectations, especially as we edge closer to the end of term break.

Hoop Time

We would like to extend a MASSIVE thankyou to the parents who volunteered and assisted for Hoop Time. Another MASSIVE shoutout to Ms French, Mr Jackson, Rachel and Nurse Belinda who attended also! We have heard that the students represented our school with integrity and we are very VERY proud of them!

Mindfulness & Meditation

Over the past few weeks we have been having casual conversations with some families about some helpful ways our beautiful students can unwind and relax, especially if some things happening in their lives are overwhelming; if they're tired OR wired from big days. Below we have included some links and suggestions to some resources they may be of assistance. Please note, some of these may be best done with parental supervision!

  1. Spotify Kids Meditation Stories

2. Cosmic Kids Yoga

3. Breathing Exercises - Tips for Parents, Kids and Teens!

4. Finally, something fun for holidays... some artwork! Meet ArtHub
