Literacy

We have begun reading a new mentor text titled Farmer John’s Tractor. Through this text, we are exploring narrative structure, including elements such as setting, characters, problem, and solution. Additionally, we are expanding our vocabulary with words like wailfrightened, and clamber. As part of our learning, we have also discussed the role of farmers and common activities that take place on a farm.

Here is a link of our story ‘Farmer John’s Tractor’

Mathematics

Our young mathematicians have been busy exploring the concepts of sharing and grouping. Using hands-on materials like counters, blocks, and everyday classroom items, the students are developing a strong foundation in early division and multiplication. It’s been wonderful to see them working together, problem-solving, and making math meaningful through play and exploration!

Here is an example of sharing:

Share 12 apples between 3 children

🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎  ← 12 Apples

👧     👦     👶

🍎🍎🍎  🍎🍎🍎  🍎🍎🍎  ← 3 apples each

Additionally, students are exploring the concept of location. They are learning to describe the position of objects using key vocabulary such as: inside or outside, underneath or on top, at the bottom or at the top of an object. These words help build a strong foundation in spatial awareness and language skills, which are essential for understanding the world around them.

Inquiry

As part of our Weather and Seasons unit, our Prep students have been learning all about how to stay warm when the temperature drops. To put their knowledge into action, they each drew a friendly monster and dressed it up for a chilly day, complete with cosy winter gear!

Check out the catchy “I’m Cold” song we enjoyed in class:

Wellbeing

During our Wellbeing afternoon, students engaged in reading an Elmer book, followed by a thoughtful discussion to identify and reflect on their individual strengths. They then collaborated with a family member or staff member to create a vibrant Elmer-themed craft, celebrating their uniqueness and creativity.

Reminders

Satchels

Each child has a take-home reading book in their satchel, which should be practiced daily along with their Boomerang book. Kindly ensure that the satchel, reading book, and Boomerang book are returned to school each day. Additionally, each child has their login details in their Boomerang book, granting them access to Little Learners Decodable Readers online.
