Year 12 students have completed their final assessments, and deserve to be congratulated on their achievements over the past two years. Achieving their Certificate III in Business, these students have gained an impressive range of skills that will be invaluable long after graduation. The Business Services students were surveyed to get their perspective, and the following is summary of what they had to say.
What They've Learned
Students have become proficient in essential business tools like Microsoft Word and Excel, mastering everything from formatting documents to using calculations in spreadsheets. They've also honed their communication skills, learning how to write professional emails and formal letters.
Beyond technical skills, students now understand their rights as employees and the importance of Work Health and Safety (WHS) in the workplace. They've also learned key financial and administrative tasks like using Xero for payments and invoices, setting up meetings, and taking minutes. They have also improved their teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Key Benefits
The biggest takeaway for students was earning a nationally recognized Certificate III in Business while still in school. This valuable qualification can lead to higher-paying jobs and provides a huge advantage, as they didn't have to attend TAFE for the same certification. This extra credential complements their HSC and ATAR, providing a direct pathway to university or immediate employment. Students know these practical skills will be a huge asset in their future careers.
What They've Most Enjoyed
Students enjoyed the practical aspects of the course and appreciated that all assignments were completed in class. The wellbeing lessons and ergonomic breaks were popular, offering students an opportunity to think about their wellbeing in relation to workload.
Students also enjoyed hands-on projects, such as working with business documents and spreadsheets, creating their "Christmas Chaos" shop, and especially their work placement experience, which allowed them to apply their skills in a real-life setting.
