Drama

Year 10 Drama Students have been exploring the play ‘Heavy Weather’ by Lizzie Nunnery this term. Throughout their ‘Theatre Study and Play Development’ unit, students have been working collaboratively to design, create, and develop a full drama production for their upcoming assignment task. Students have taken on a variety of technical roles, including becoming the directors of lighting, sound, costume, set, choreography and promotion, as well as the choice of performance roles, in order to bring this play to life. All students have been working diligently in the preparation to perform this play for an audience early next term, and are excited to showcase their hard work and creativity.
Year 12Drama students have been working this Term on their Group Project, as well as their Individual Project submissions. Students have presented creative and engaging Individual Projects, including Performances and Set Designs, which they have been fortunate to share during their HSC Performance Night this term. Students have finished their Trials Exams and are now preparing for their HSC written exams in the next month. The Year 12 Drama students are very proud of all of their achievements and successes this year. We wish all Year 12 Drama students the very best for their upcoming HSC exam.
Congratulations to Ella Saxon who received a nomination for OnStage, for her HSC Individual Project performance, which is a yearly showcase of HSC Drama major works for exemplary projects. This is an outstanding effort is a result of her persistent hard work, rehearsals, seeking and acting on feedback to build her Individual Performance; her hard work has certainly paid off.
Ella's incredible achievement will now be a part of a selection process where all nominated performances will be considered for both Individual and Group Performance pieces for HSC OnStage, which will be showcased at the Seymore Centre in 2026. We wish Ella all the best as she hopefully progresses to the next stage of the selection process.

& 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐭 - Celebrating former students' achievements on the Wagga stage!
We are delighted to announce that several Mater Dei Catholic College alumni are taking centre stage in the Wagga School of Arts community musical production of & Juliet.
This vibrant and innovative show, renowned for reimagining Shakespeare’s classic with a contemporary twist, showcases the remarkable talent of Mater Dei’s former students who
continue to make the college proud beyond their school years.
Juliet’s new story bursts to life through a playlist of pop anthems as iconic as her name, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “Baby One More Time,” “Larger Than Life,” “That’s The Way It Is,” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” – all from the genius songwriter/producer
behind more #1 hits than any other artist this century.
Break free of the balcony scene and get into this romantic comedy that proves there’s life after Romeo. The only thing tragic would be missing it.
The former students dedication to the performing arts reflects the spirit nurtured at Mater Dei, and we encourage the college community to support them by attending this spectacular production.
Performed on stage at the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre by a cast and crew from the Wagga Wagga community, & Juliet promises to be the 2025 musical theatre event of the year.
