End of Term 3 Update - Kurunjang Secondary College

Thank You for Attending Our Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all families who attended our Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday 15th September. These meetings are a powerful opportunity for students, families, and staff to come together to reflect on progress, clarify learning goals, and plan next steps.

We are especially pleased by the number of students who took an active role in the conversations. Student voice, responsibility, and ownership of learning are key drivers of growth – and your support as families reinforces that learning matters.

Final Call: Parent/Carer Survey Closes This Friday, 19/09/25

Our Parent/Carer/Guardian Opinion Survey will close on Friday 19 September 2025. To date, our participation rate remains lower than anticipated, and we are asking all families to please take 20 minutes to complete the survey.

Your voice shapes how we strengthen relationships, improve programs, and plan for the future. The survey link was sent via email, but if you can't locate it, please contact the College Office and we will happily assist.

Let's aim for a strong response rate – because every voice counts.

RTLR Review: Keeping Learning the Focus

This week, staff came together to review data from the Ready to Learn Room (RTLR) pilot, which has now concluded its trial phase. The RTLR is designed as a short-term reset space, supporting students to regulate and re-engage in learning, so that all classrooms remain calm, purposeful, and uninterrupted.

Staff engaged in robust discussion about what the data is telling us, and how to refine and improve the process moving forward. As a result, the RTLR will most likely continue for the remainder of the year with greater clarity, consistency, and a renewed focus on classroom engagement.

Our goal is always the same: that every student is ready to learn, every period, every day.

Why Engagement Matters –  The Research Behind Our Approach

According to the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO), the three most powerful predictors of student achievement and wellbeing are:

  • A strong sense of belonging
  • High levels of engagement
  • A belief that effort leads to success

At Kurunjang, we are deeply committed to building classrooms and routines that foster these exact conditions. We maintain high expectations and high aspirations because the evidence is clear: education is the most powerful pathway to a successful, fulfilling life.

End of Term Message

As Term 3 draws to a close, I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of our staff, students, and families. Together, we have made important strides in strengthening our culture, clarifying expectations, and keeping learning at the centre of all we do.

To our families, thank you for your continued trust and partnership. I wish all students a safe, restful, and restorative break – and look forward to the energy, growth, and opportunities that Term 4 will bring.

Warm regards,

Aylin Gökmen
