Amazing Grade Ones

Dear Grade One Families,

What an incredible year it has been in Grade One!

Our students have shown amazing growth across all areas of their learning, taking on new challenges with curiosity, confidence, and a positive attitude. Throughout the year, they have strengthened their reading, writing, and maths skills, becoming increasingly independent and proud of their progress.

We’ve explored engaging texts, expanded our phonics knowledge, and learned a range of new strategies to tackle maths problems. Students have also continued to develop their speaking and listening skills through discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities that encouraged teamwork and communication.

We are so proud of everything the children have achieved this year. Thank you for your ongoing support - it truly makes a difference. We can’t wait to see our students continue to shine as they move into Grade Two!

- From the Grade One Team (Jemma, Keegan, Tom, Naomi, Billie)

GREEN NEST DISCOVERY

In our Green Nest, students have been busy connecting with nature and caring for our living creatures. They’ve enjoyed colouring-in activities at the tables, spent time placing rocks in the frog bog to help create safe spaces for wildlife, and observed the growth of the surrounding vegetation as the environment continues to change. Our guinea pigs and chickens have been well cared for too, with students showing kindness and teamwork as they help feed, handle, and look after them. It’s been a wonderful term of nurturing, exploring, and learning outdoors.

KYABRAM FAUNA PARK EXCURSION

Grade 1 Excursion to Kyabram Fauna Park

At the start of this term, our Grade 1 students had an exciting day exploring Kyabram Fauna Park! The children loved getting up close to a range of native Australian animals - from kangaroos and emus to koalas and reptiles. They learned about different habitats, animal adaptations, and the importance of caring for our wildlife and environment. It was wonderful to see so much curiosity and enthusiasm as they asked questions and shared what they knew. A big thank you to the Grade 1 teachers and support staff for organising such a memorable day!

WRITING

In Grade One, we’ve been busy becoming confident young authors! This term, students explored imaginative writing, creating characters, settings, and stories that stretched their creativity. We also learned about persuasive writing, practicing how to share our opinions and convince others using strong reasons. It has been wonderful to see students growing as writers and proudly sharing their ideas on the page.

MATHS

In Maths this term, our Grade One students have been building strong number sense and confidence. We explored skip counting, using patterns to count forwards and backwards by 2s, 5s and 10s. Students practised addition and subtraction strategies to solve problems efficiently, and deepened their understanding of place value, learning how tens and ones help us make and break numbers. It has been fantastic to see their skills grow and their enthusiasm shine during every lesson!

SCIENCE

This term in Science, our Grade One students have been learning about different sources of energy. We explored how energy can come from the five senses, light, heat and sound, and looked at how these sources help power our world. Students took part in hands-on activities to see energy in action — from creating simple movement experiments to discussing how we use energy every day. It’s been fantastic watching their curiosity spark as they discover where energy comes from and how it helps us!
