Specialist Subjects

 Physical Education

This term in Physical Education, students across all year levels continued to engage in a variety of exciting and skill-building sports.

Prep to Year 2

Our youngest students explored a wide range of exciting activities, including cricket, frisbee golf, kickball, CrossFit, and fitness testing. Throughout the term, they developed fundamental movement skills while learning new games and understanding how to work together. Each activity helped build their coordination, strength, and confidence, all while having fun and staying active.

Year 3 to 6

Students in Grades 3 to 6 participated in engaging units on cricket, frisbee golf, kickball, CrossFit, and fitness testing. They focused on developing and refining their skills, improving technique, and building a deeper understanding of game rules and strategies. Throughout the term, they worked on teamwork, resilience, and strong sportsmanship across all activities.

Divisional Sports Competitions

We had teams go and represent the school at sporting events this term. Our lawn bowls team went to the next stage, the Regional event in Moama. We finished third in the region, which is an excellent result, considering only one of our players had played before the competition began. Thanks to Ben Gould for coaching the team and to parents and families who transported the players to and from the event. We took students to the Divisional Cricket event. Although winning results weren't recorded, success was seen through huge sixes, accurate bowling and spectacular catching. We’re proud of all our teams for their dedication and excellent representation of our school.

Outstanding Achievements

This term saw some of students achieve outstanding individual results.

Geneva M - STATE CHAMPION! 1st Shot Put and 2nd Discus - State Championships

Grade 3-6:

And that's a wrap! After around 7 months of work, from auditions, to choreography, rehearsal after rehearsal, costume fittings and singing lessons, our production, "Story Time Showdown", has been run and done. (Photos down below)

The Grade 3-6 students did a magnificent job. We had over 80 students have individual speaking or singing parts!! In total, around 240 participants got to get a taste of life on the stage.

Thank you to all parents, families, carers, and supporters who helped out in anyway. We sincerely hoped you enjoyed the show. We strive to strike the perfect balance between giving kids a go and putting on a quality and entertaining performance.

The video is available to download to your device/computer for the next month or so, free of charge. If you miss out, just bring in a USB and I will transfer it across for you.

Grade 1- 2:

Grade 1/2 completed their Genre Wars tournament, which saw 16 sub-genres of music selected by each class. Each week, we listened to a short example of two genres, and students shared their thoughts before voting on which would go through to the next round of the knockout tournament. The winners for each class were (and there quite a range of styles!):

2AD - Country Pop (Country)

2J - Hyper-Pop (Electronic)

1S - Rap Metal (Metal)

1M - Dark Ambient (New Age)

1T - Indie Folk (Folk)

Students also experimented and learned how to use various apps and software to make music and effects in the iPads. We explored Incredibox and Chrome Music Lab, before building more substantial songs on GarageBand. The sampler, a tool in GarageBand where you can record and then manipulate your won voice, was a huge hit. Who would have thought!?!?!

Grade Prep:

Preps had their first try at ukuleles, learning how to hold them, make sounds with their thumbs across the strings and even learned a couple of basic chords to play some simple songs. Techniques varied wildly, which is always amusing to see.

We continued to focus heavily on drama games that encourage resilience, teamwork and fair play. After learning "Switch" last term, the Prep students are now able to coordinate and run the game on their own. The played other games like "Who is the Leader?", "Where is the Egg?", and blind walk trust activities (as can be seen below).

The Preps have had a great year and are all set for expanding their musical talents and abilities in 2026!

TERM FOUR WORKS

Another year down in the Visual Arts space and our students continue to shine.

The art room has been full of creativity, colour, and hands-on exploration. Students have enjoyed working with clay, learning how to mould, shape, and join pieces to create fantastic small sculptures. They also spent time making weaves, experimenting with pattern, texture, and colour as they practised fine-motor skills in a fun and engaging way.

One of the most exciting projects was designing and sketching their own hybrid animals, where students combined features from different creatures to invent truly imaginative artworks. We also explored the vibrant world of Australian artist Ken Done, learning about his bold colours and playful style. Inspired by his work, students created their own abstract paintings of the coral reef, celebrating movement, shape, and colour. Each project has encouraged students to take creative risks and express themselves in new ways. Thankyou to all students for their wonderful enthusiasm and hard work throughout the term—it has been a joy to watch their artistic confidence grow.

FROM THE ARTISTS - CLASS REFFLECTION STATEMENTS:

We asked our students to reflect on their units of work anonyms, here is a few comments.

KEN DONE REEFS - PREP:

"I like how Ken Done uses lots of bright colours in his art"

" The fish are my favourite because it doesn't matter that they don't look like real fish"

"It was fun to invent lots of bright coral, and no one had coral that was wrong, everyone could make their own coral"

TEXTILES AND WEAVING - GRADE 1/2

"It was really hard to get started but after a few weeks I got a lot better and really enjoyed it"

"I think this was my thing, drawing is a bit hard but I liked using yarn and wool and working with my hands alot"

"It was fun to work with different shapes and see how a weave can be made, the spiral weave was the hardest but also my favourite"

HYBRID ANIMALS - GRADE 3/4

"This was cool, learning about Rob Harris was good, I never knew that drawing could be so detailed"

"I am going to work on my hyper realism over the holiday, one day I think I could do what Rob Harris does, it's crazy"

"It was pretty hard to get the blending correct with charcoal, I think if I kept trying I could get it right"

WORKING WITH CLAY - GRADE 5/6

"Real pottery clay was alot harder to work with than I thought, if I was to do this again, I would like to slow down, and focus on the quality of my work a bit more"

"This was the best unit so far, I loved manipulating the clay and trying new things"

"I was really proud of my effort, I have not worked with this medium before, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it and how I had some success at the start"

✌️Auslan✌️

The emblem for this year's Deaflympics

  • Design: Created by students from the Tsukuba University of Technology and selected through a vote by secondary school students.

  • Symbolism:
    • Hand: A symbol of the deaf community.
    • Circle: Represents the connections between people and the expanding communities that the Deaflympics helps to foster.
    • Flower: Specifically cherry blossom petals, symbolizing the blooming of a new future.

Our students have been enthusiastically putting their Auslan skills into practice! Using their knowledge of signing colours and numbers, they worked together to identify and interpret different countries’ flags featured in the Deaflympics.

It was wonderful to see students confidently communicating in Auslan as they compared flags, discussed their features, and matched them to the correct countries.

The Deaflympics is a big sports event for athletes who are Deaf or hard of hearing. They don’t use hearing aids or cochlear implants during the games so everyone plays the same way.

Gallery Image

Instead of loud sounds to start races, they use flashing lights, vibrations, or hand signals so all the athletes know exactly when to go.

It’s an awesome way to see how athletes use their strengths, work as a team, and show that everyone can shine in sports!

In class, we have been learning how to sign about different medals:

  • GOLD medal 🥇
  • SILVER medal 🥈
  • BRONZE medal 🥉

We also learned how to sign about countries and talk about which countries won medals in the Deaflympics, an international sporting event for Deaf athletes.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Enjoy your holidays, and I look forward to seeing you in 2026!

~ Miss Edwards🎄✨
