 PBL

At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:

Respect,

Responsibility and

Kindness

This week in PBL we focused on RESPONSIBILITY, Be safe indoors. The children explored ways to regulate their emotions when they are feeling angry or upset that keeps themselves and others safe.

Here are some of our lucky PBL winners from last week who have been demonstrating expected behaviours at school.

World Kindness Day

We will celebrate World kindness day at SFS on Thursday 13th November. On this day, students can wear a purple accessory to raise awareness for spreading kindness at school. Purple is a colour often used to show solidarity with the Kindness movement. Children are to wear their full school uniform on this day but may wear purple socks, hair ribbon, bandana, shoe laces, cap etc to show their support for World Kindness day. The children will have a focus on learning social skills around how to show kindness to others at school and will decorate a kindness card to give to someone who had demonstrated this to others.

Twilight Market

We are getting so close to our annual Twilight market which will be held on Thursday 6th November, less than 2 weeks to go. The market will run from 5pm until 8pm. There will be a variety of food trucks with delicious food to purchase, a variety of stalls including some student lead and Action team stalls. Tell your family and friends and let’s have a great night together. Parents please note, parents and carers are responsible for their children on the night. No children are to play on the Adventure playground unsupervised by a parent or guardian as staff will not be supervising this area on the night.

Respectful Relationships Parent Survey

In term 4, we are kindly asking parents to participate in a Respectful relationships parent survey. This information will help us understand parents understanding of the program and framework in the hope of preventing family violence.

I kindly ask parents if they can give 15 minutes of their time to complete this survey. This year we have had more parent education and involvement with the Respectful Relationships program through the following actions:

Involvement of School Advisory Council and education about the RR framework and curriculum

2 successful Parent and Child RR activity sessions on the topics of Gender Stereotypes and Stress Management

Our first ever “Dress as your dream job” day for students with parents coming in to speak about their jobs with students.

The link to complete the survey will be sent out soon. Thanks for your support, parents and carers feedback is valued and appreciated.

SRC news

Here is an update from our SRC students about what they do at our meetings and what they have been working on.

We meet every Monday afternoon with Rachel in the staffroom.

We share our ideas about how we can make the school better.

Kids can share their ideas by writing down their ideas and putting it in a suggestion box.

Seniors can use their Chromebooks and write down ideas by using the SRC idea form in the student portal.

In term 3 we talked about ways to be safe at school and what to do when we don’t feel safe.

In term 4, we have been talking about kindness because World Kindness is coming up this term. We have been working on making a video to teach the students about World kindness day and how we can show kindness to others at school.

We have been working on making a video to share with the students at Morning Gathering to teach them about how we can spread kindness at SFS.

We have also been working on some new lunchtime activities for students to participate at lunchtimes this term. We have a new lunchtime games club, a book club and  a spelling bee competition coming soon!

We encourage all students to keep sharing their ideas and have a say in what happens at our school.
