Digital Technology

Xavier and Aqeel - Digital Technologies Captains

Hello parents and students. It is your Digital Technology captains, Xavier and Aqeel. We thought it would be great to learn a bit about our teachers at HEPS and what they do in the digital space. We decided to ask different teachers around the school what technology they had when they were young and what games or electronics they may have used. Here’s what we found out…

Mrs Appleby — Level 4 teacher (4BA)

Mrs Appleby said that she didn’t have as much technology as what we have today. She said that she had a typewriter when she was in high school and she had to write everything down on her typewriter. She also got her first ever phone when she was 21, the Nokia Brick phone and her second phone was a Motorola RAZR v3. She stated that technology now has completely changed. Here are some of her favorite apps she has - follows Hawthorn footy club, follows Melbourne Mavericks, Spotify, Hawthorn app, life 360 and the PTV.

Mrs Scotti — Level 4 Teacher (4LS)

Mrs Scotti didn't really use any technology when she was a little girl and she would just play outside with her siblings. Now she said she uses her TV and on her phone she uses Calculator, Google, Safari, Woodoku, and she stated she also listens to audio books.

Mrs Haddad

Mrs Haddad had much more tech influence in her life than Mrs Scotti, but when she was growing up she didn't have a computer until 10 years old. She didn't have any online games but she did have an Atari and played Space Invaders. She loved to play Guitar Hero on the Wii. Mrs Hadad loves to play Mario Kart 8 on the Switch. She also loves to shop online.

Mrs Darling - Education Support

Mrs Darling says that she plays Candy Crush, played GhostBusters on the C64, MarioKart on the Nintendo, Tetris and listened to cassettes on her Walkman. She mentioned that she loves watching cute cat videos on YouTube and shopping online. She remembered that back when she was little she watched videos on her video player (VHS) and listened to music on a cassette tape.

It was great to hear what the teachers around the school experienced when they were younger and the technology they had, its impact, and what they do now. We hope you enjoyed hearing about some of our teachers and their tech use when they were younger.

We can’t wait to tell you more about the world of technology.
