BOOK WEEK ALL WRAPPED UP AT EPS
What an exciting fortnight we have had at EPS celebrating all things literacy.
A big thank you to all our parents/carers who have supported us with purchases at the Book Fair, by helping to create fabulous Book Week Costumes and by coming along to EPS for the Book Parade and to celebrate the writing efforts of our Year 1 poets.
Enjoy reading this update on Book Week news and some fun photos.
The FABULOUS BOOK FAIR
Once again we supported our local book shop, Avenue Bookstore, for our annual EPS Book Fair. Avenue supplied a brilliant range of magical picture story books, chapter books, beautiful non-fiction texts and more — something for everyone!
Each class came through the library to create a ‘wishlist’ of books to take home to parents and carers, as well as helping Chrissy with a library wishlist.
Your generosity generated a percentage voucher for the school, and we’ve already added a whopping 71 new books to the library and classrooms, with more to come!
Story Time in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2.
Students and teachers delved deep into the world of stories and celebrated the wonder of books together. Teachers embraced their role as chief storytellers, and students moved from class to class and to a different world in each. They visited strange lands, and met fabulous, friendly, fierce and magical characters as they listened to a range of stories chosen to excite and engage their imaginations.
A Magical Book Parade
‘Reading Is Magic’ was the theme and our EPS students let their imaginations take them into the magical world of books. Students (and staff) transformed into story-inspired creatures and characters and celebrated their love of literature.
Our Prep to Year 6 Book Week Reps were active in planning, publicising and running the Book Parade; their enthusiasm was contagious and their support and encouragement of their peers added to the excitement. Our Book Week Reps were Sara in Prep, Tom and Dylan in Year 1, Iris and Ruby in Year 2, Florence and Georgia in Year 3, Delilah and Harry in Year 4, Archer and Ev in Year 5 and Issy and Isla in Year 6.
Finally preparations were complete, costumes created and Book Parade day was here; we were ready to start. The sun shone, the music played, and the Story Dogs, Polly and Brenda, came along in costume. The colourful and creative costumes inspired by beloved books, and the excitement and broad smiles of our students made this much loved event as enjoyable and special as ever.
Prizes of book vouchers from the Avenue Bookshop for both individual and group efforts were awarded for the most original and creative costumes.
Congratulations to the following winners:
Prep Isla (We are the Matildas)
Year 1 Samar (Simone Biles Rules)
Year 2 Chloe W (Oi Frog)
Year 3 Tommy (TinTin)
Year 4 Aston (‘The Treehouse’ from 13 Story Treehouse)
Year 5 Angus (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)
Year 6 Will (The Dictionary)
Group Issy, Frankie and Heidi (Winnie the Pooh)
Staff: Diana and Rory (Moon Face and The Saucepan Man from The Faraway Tree)
Door Displays
Classroom doors were transformed becoming ‘portals’ into the magical space of the CBCA shortlisted books. Each class chose a book to bring to life at their classroom entry, sharing their creative and artistic vision for the books they selected.
The winning Door Displays, as judged by the year 6 Book Week Reps, were Prep B (Can You Teach A Fish To Climb A Tree?), 2C (Every Night At Midnight), 3A (Eww Gross) and 5B (Paper-flower Girl). Each class will receive some new books for their classroom library.
Poetry
Our Year 1 poets proudly shared their poems with a packed house of parents and carers. Every Year 1 student recited an original poem to the delight of a very excited and enthusiastic audience. What a wonderful celebration of all their hard work.
Congratulations students and teachers.
