Principal's report

Michael Portaro - Principal

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to our school community for your kind words, cards and appreciation on Principals’ Day. Leanne and I appreciate the kindness and generosity and gratitude from both students and teachers. The heartfelt messages and thoughtful gestures truly highlighted the kindness of our school community - something that makes our school so special. It is an honour to work alongside such dedicated educators and enthusiastic students. Thank you for making this day—and every day—a reminder of why we love what we do.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students on their exceptional NAPLAN results! Their hard work, dedication, and resilience have truly paid off, reflected in the impressive outcomes. Our school’s overall results demonstrate outstanding performance, surpassing network and similar schools by up to 10% in some cases. This is a remarkable achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder!

A summary of our outcomes against Similar Schools, Network Schools and State averages can be found below.

Evacuation Drill

Our Term 3 evacuation drill will take place in September and will involve an offsite evacuation to Elsternwick Park. Students will receive thorough briefings from their teachers both before and during the drill to ensure they are well-prepared and supported throughout the process.

Parent/Carer/Guardian Survey

Thank you to all the families who participated in the Parent/Care/Guardian Opinion Survey. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us understand the areas where we are excelling and those that require further attention. While the results from Similar Schools are not yet available, the data so far demonstrates that the strategies we’ve put in place are making a meaningful impact. This continued progress encourages us as we look forward to more comprehensive comparisons in the coming weeks. Thank you once again for your participation and for being an integral part of our school community.

School Strategic Plan (SSP) and 2025 School Review

2025 is the last year of our School Strategic Plan, and a Review will be conducted mid-year. This provides our school with a valuable opportunity to reflect on the progress we’ve made, assess the effectiveness of our initiatives, and identify key areas for further improvement. It will also guide us in setting new goals and priorities to ensure continued success and growth in the years ahead.

Have a great weekend,

Michael

My niece, Maeve Polly Portaro, turned one month old last week, and Pat is over the moon to be a proud first-time grandad. My brother, a die-hard Bombers supporter, is already planning to pass on his passion for the team to her!
