From our College Captains
In this edition, we're very pleased to welcome our peer, Liam McGarry (Year 12) to share his experience in the lead role of Shrek in 'Shrek The Musical'.
Being part of this year's College Production of 'Shrek The Musical' was an incredible honour, and I would definitely call it one of my biggest highlights of the year.
As it was my first and last musical at our College - let alone having the lead role - I was nervous when I entered the auditorium in February for the first rehearsal of the year. Luckily for me, the environment was incredibly welcoming and allowed me to become more confident in both my acting and singing abilities. For the first 5 months, we would spend every Tuesday after school rehearsing, after that we would then have additional rehearsals on Sundays until show week.
The musicals at St Bede's College are an amazing experience, and I regret that I did not participate in them earlier on. To anyone thinking of being in the musicals, I recommend you go and try it out. Musicals and stage productions provide an incredible opportunity to not only express yourself, but it can also create chances for friendships that can last for years. I myself made many new friends during my time in the show.
Being cast in the lead role and being in Year 12 was definitely a challenge, especially balancing study with rehearsals. But I believe that with the correct preparation and organisation, it is possible for anyone to participate in this rare opportunity.
My time in this musical was an incredible experience and I am absolutely glad that I chose to do it in my final years of secondary education. I have made memories and friendships that I will hold onto for many years to come.
