Senior Pathways Expo
Our Pathways Expo Evening on the 23 July launched Subject Selection Season at St Bede’s College. With over 800 guests and staff attending, the night was highly informative.
Our students and their families learned about the two pathways we offer - VCE and VCE-VM (Vocational Major). Guests explored various VCE, VM and VET subjects at information booths. Our Careers Practitioners, along with representatives from Universities, TAFEs and Industries, were on hand to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their pathways both at our College and beyond.
This event was followed by a series of student assemblies for our current Year 11, Year 10 and Year 9 cohorts. The focus of these were to further support our students with bespoke presentations detailing the opportunities, processes, and responsibilities students have in coming weeks as they make their decisions for next year.
Our current Year 10 students transitioning to Year 11 attended individual subject interviews with subject leaders and teachers. Our staff counselled students on their subject choices based on their interests, capabilities, and projected career paths.

In the coming weeks, we look forward to holding Subject Selection assemblies for our Year 7 and 8 Students to learn about their opportunities. Further information will be shared with families ahead of time.

Year 7 Learning - Snapshot
Students in Year 7 English have taken on the role of authors; drafting, creating and publishing their own picture story books. Embracing creative freedom, story book ideas spanned perilous adventures to heartfelt family narratives. I had the pleasure of completing this with Year 7.02 English at our Mentone Campus.
The process involved outlining their ideas and storyboarding their visuals. Throughout this, we used continuous feedback to check for student understanding and assess the learning process as part of their final picture story book product. This shift enabled feedback to become a real-time dialogue that students could immediately and directly apply to further develop their learning.
Students explored creative language techniques such as metaphors, similes and onomatopoeia to elevate their writing and tailor it to their chosen audience. They also experimented with AI image generation to bring their stories to life visually. Combining new avenues of technology with creative expression and ongoing feedback has provided a dynamic learning experience. After publishing their picture story books, students shared these with their peers, showcasing their creativity and hard work.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, finding it both enriching and inspiring. The combination of new technological tools with creative expression and ongoing feedback provided a dynamic and engaging learning experience.
