Japanese Model UN Summit

On the 23rd July, Unit 1/2 and 3/4 Japanese students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the 2024 Japanese Model UN Summit. This event is a simulation of the UN General Assembly, offering a place for students from different schools to collaborate, debate and use our negotiation skills, allowing us to strengthen our Japanese speaking abilities.

This year we had four Nossal teams attend, representing the UK, Turkiye, Cuba and Egypt, amongst 24 other countries. The event began with the Secretary-General providing an overview of the day and explaining the Model UN Protocols, after which, each country gave their Position Statement Speeches regarding Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development.

Following a short break for morning tea, the Caucus Session commenced, where delegates asked questions, expressing their country's views and finalised their proposed amendments. The final session for the day was the selection of amendments, which required a simple majority to pass and be included in the new resolution. Overall, the Nossal Japanese students thoroughly enjoyed the day and are thankful for this incredible opportunity!

Unit ¾ Japanese Exam Workshop

As part of the end-of-year Japanese exam preparation, on the 12th of July, Unit ¾ Japanese students attended a holiday workshop. This workshop focused on developing examination skills, extended writing, public speaking, general conversation skills etc.

Conducted by Japanese teachers and assessors from four different schools, it was also an opportunity to meet and collaborate with students from other schools, who were also studying Unit ¾ Japanese. Held at a public library in Carlton, Japanese-themed morning and afternoon tea was provided.

The Nossal students also visited a nearby Japanese restaurant for lunch. The Unit ¾ Japanese class is very thankful to Ms Kamimura for organising this valuable workshop to prepare us for the exam!
