Accounting Excursion

On the 5th of August, the Unit 1&2 Accounting class travelled to the city to gain a deeper insight into finance, consulting and businesses overall. First, they travelled to PwC in Southbank. PwC is part of the Big Four accounting firms, which include Deloitte, KPNG and EY.

As a multinational company, they are separated into two distinct divisions, the Trust Solutions and the Consulting Solutions.

PwC solves financial issues for international organisations, like Google and ExxonMobil and aim to build trust in society. We had a panel interview with three managers who discussed their roles in the firm and the environment at PwC. Then, they took the class on a tour of the building, and then finished with a networking session with 5 managers at PwC.

Overall, we gained a strong understanding of the inner workings of large corporations like PwC and the vast career opportunities for the future.

After their visit to PwC, the class were put into groups and were sent on a scavenger hunt around the city. The task was to take photos or gain signatures from employees at stores while asking the employees questions about their business. For example, we were asking about how the business was being ethical regarding employee wellbeing or customer satisfaction.

This gave us a better understanding of real business’ inventory management systems, their structure, and the overall running of the business, while also being able to safely travel in the city with our friends.

Ultimately, this excursion was not only extremely enjoyable, but also highly educational.
