Hockey News

In a display of resilience and teamwork, the Nossal High School hockey team faced challenging conditions at the regional championships in Hawthorn. Battling not only strong opponents but also consistent and heavy rainfall, Nossal took on Melbourne High and Mordialloc Secondary College in a couple of intense matches.

The first game against Mordialloc Secondary College was a tough challenge, ending in an 8-0 defeat. Despite the score line, the Nossal team showed grit and determination, playing with heart until the final whistle. The relentless rain added another layer of difficulty, but the players pushed through, demonstrating their commitment to the sport and each other.

In the following match against Melbourne High, Nossal again faced a formidable opponent. The team worked hard on their defence and showcased moments of strong coordination, but ultimately fell 3-0. While the scores were not in their favour, the Nossal players left the field with their heads held high, proud of their effort and the lessons learned.

Reflecting on the experience, the Nossal High School team expressed optimism for the future. "We may not have won, but we learned a lot about teamwork and perseverance," said the team captain. "Playing in such challenging conditions taught us the importance of communication and staying focused, no matter the circumstances. We’re determined to come back stronger next year."

As the team looks ahead, they plan to use these experiences as a foundation for growth and improvement. The spirit and camaraderie displayed throughout the tournament have only strengthened their resolve. Nossal High School may have faced defeat on the scoreboard, but the true victory lies in the lessons learned and the bonds formed on the field. The junior members of the team are already looking forward to the next season, eager to build on this year’s experiences and strive for better results.

Thank you to Ms Clarkson and Ms Vanstan for supervising (and coaching) on the day, as well as organising the teams and training. We know it wasn’t easy to be there in the rain, but your support meant everything!

Region AFL Girls

On the 2nd of August, our senior girls footy team headed off to play at the Southern Metropolitan Regionals!!

Our first game against Mentone took a couple of minutes to get used to as a lot of us haven't played footy before, but after some words of wisdom from Mr Jose and Kafil we were able to get the hang of it. Ria and Sayu in particular, despite being in year 10 against senior students, were keeping up the pressure in amazing fashion!

Our next game against Narre Warren South was a high energy game with both our teams running up and down the field. Narre put Nossal's defence to work, helping us figure out the better ways to position ourselves to support our teammates in midfield. That being said, Hilary and Shreya had some lovely marks and saves that set the bar for everyone.

Our third and final game was against McKinnon, known for being a very sporty school, which was a bit nerve wracking. But our Nossal competitiveness pushed us all to play our bests, providing quite a few 'head-to-head' moments with our opposition. Having figured out some team strategies for positioning, and beating McKinnon to the ball, it was definitely our favourite game. And I'm very proud of Guneet and my co-captain Avneet for their continued pressure and energy and, our entire team for exuding sportsmanship throughout this final game.

Unfortunately, we didn't advance to the next round, but we all agreed that we had a fun day and that it was a day well spent.

There are lots of people we must thank for this opportunity, first, a massive thank you to Mr Jose and Ms Ball for teaching, coaching and laughing with us in this whole experience we couldn't have done it without you.

Next, a thank you to Kafil for goal umpiring and advice in all the games and Mr Sterel for organising it overall.

Last but absolutely not least, I want to say thank you and that I'm so proud of all the girls who played, footy is a very tiring sport but you all kept up and, as the year 12s' last interschool sports day we hope you all continue to play next year!!

Peer Teaching Unit

Year 10 HPE students have been undertaking a peer teaching unit this term. In groups, students have planned and facilitated a sport or activity of their choice. This unit allows students to develop important life skills, including collaboration, communication, decision making and problem solving, public speaking, giving and receiving feedback.

The year 10 HPE teachers are impressed with the maturity and creativity shown by our students and are adding innovative ideas to their own teaching toolkit.

Well done year 10 HPE students.
