Year 10 Visual Arts - Soft-Pastel Drawing
The Year 10s first practical art activity was a drawing of a monstera plant. We would draw from observation of the plant in our classroom, turning the page every other minute to add more leaves from different angles, creating a layered composition. Afterwards we re-drew our sketch on black card to start our final artwork. We used soft pastels to make the leaves stand out, choosing either a warm or cool colour scheme with one complementary colour, to make the leaves really pop. Mr Wickham taught us how to use chiaroscuro in our artworks, which is an Italian word used to describe the contrast of light and shadow in paintings or art. This technique relates back to our pieces as the contrast of the dark background to the vibrant pastels would give the drawings that chiaroscuro effect. Overall, this was such an educational and fun way to jump our class right into art and prepare for this semester.

Year 8 - Howard Arkley Paintings
Howard Arkley was a Melbourne born artist who was inspired by the rural and suburban culture of Australia. He was known for his Pop Art styled airbrush paintings of houses, architecture and suburbia. Students have been inspired by Arkley in their interpretation and creation of their own homes.
Year 8 - Still Life Contour Drawing with Pattern
Students learn how to draw from observation focusing on contour lines. They then apply alternating patterns using a limit of two colours plus black.
Year 8 - Futuristic Apartment Design
The twentieth-century Australian Dream of a detached house in the suburbs – while still alluring - is increasingly out of reach. With the impacts of global urbanisation becoming increasingly more pronounced now is an opportunity to imagine alternatives worth working towards. Using everyday items students were asked to design a Futuristic Apartment building.
