BOOK WEEK 2024

This year we will be celebrating Children’s Book Week from next Monday the 19th of August until Friday 23rd of August.

We will kick of this week with the most exciting event – the Dress-Up Parade, on Monday August 19 at 9am. This will be in the undercover court area. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. Thank you for your support of this event as it is a highlight of the school year for the students.

This year’s theme is “Reading is Magic” The students and teachers are invited to come to school dressed to this theme OR as their favourite book character. There are no prizes, so please don’t feel you need to go out and purchase expensive costumes. A little imagination goes a long way! I am always amazed at the creativity of teachers, students and parents for this event.

During the week classes will be focusing on the 6 books nominated in the Early Childhood and Picture Book sections of the Children’s Book Council of Australia 2024 awards. The Younger Reader – Novels, are also available for loan from the School Library.

Art

Grade 5 and 6 students paid a visit to Red Rock Theatre & Gallery on Tuesday July 30th to view the NAIDOC week exhibition.

Here they had a chance to  view the exhibition which included work by an artist their own age (work pictured),  learn about the artists and their work, experience drama games and perform on the outdoor amphitheatre,  create a plein air (open air) drawing using charcoal, create shadow drawings using found materials and had a chance to sit and draw in the restored tram.

A great opportunity for our students.
