EMBRACING CHANGE & GROWTH

BY PETER CLIFFE

Welcome to the beginning of another term! Believe it or not, this is the term in which we start all the planning for the year ahead. Our leadership team has already started the process of interviewing new staff for 2025. There is so much that has to fall into place to ensure everything is ready in time for next year.

When I interview staff for new employment positions, I always make a point of asking one particular question - ‘Are you flexible?’ I ask this because you need to be flexible to work at BHCS. The nature of schools is that things change, and often this is quick and unexpected. Change, however, is part of what makes BHCS such a dynamic place.  There is never a dull moment around here!

With change and growth, sometimes there is ‘pain’, but growth is healthy. If we are not growing and moving forward than we run into the danger of becoming stale. We may even miss out on something new and better. This is why it is important that our students learn to change and grow in all areas of their lives.

One thing that has not changed, and that will never change, is God’s love for us. Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. Jesus is called the ‘rock’ and ‘fortress’. The promise of His love for us, and the expectations of His people, are a place of deep peace and stability.

God’s love and purposes for our world have never changed, He continues to be faithful from one generation to the next. We regularly share this truth with our students. Let’s not forget that while there may be lots of change going on around us, the most important thing will never change - God’s love for us.

Quote of the week

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference". Reinhold Niebuhr
