100 Story Building
The 100 Story Building Excursion
We were so excited when our teachers told us that we had been specially invited to go on a trip to Footscray to a place called ‘100 Story Building’. Our school had been selected to help the Victorian Government, who was asking young people to share their ideas about their community in the year 2050.
When we got inside we were welcomed by the presenter. He told us about the 100 Story Building having ninety-nine storeys UNDER the building. He also told us that there was a trapdoor, but he forgot where it was, as well as a broken elevator.
The guide gave us some small booklets called Pocket Portals/ Zines, where we wrote and drew about things we liked in our neighbourhood and things we wanted to change or improve. We thought about transport, housing, jobs and the environment. After that we had to flip a page and go to the Future, where we got to write about what we wanted 2050 to be like. On the last page, we wrote about our favourite invention.
Whilst we ate lunch, we looked at all the wonderful books and writing materials around the room and we also got to choose a book to take home with us. Overall, we had a lot of fun and we are grateful for the people who worked hard to give us this great opportunity. All the people we met were very kind to us and helped us learn lots of things while making it a very enjoyable experience. They are going to share our ideas and vision with the Government and the people who are able to change and shape Victoria's future.
