FIRE Carrier Commissioning
14 students from Year 5 and 6 were commissioned as Friends Igniting Reconciliation Education (FIRE) Carriers at our 2024 National Reconciliation Week Mass on Tuesday 28 May. It was a wonderful celebration of faith and recognition of all First Nations people. The commissioning of these students was performed by Fr Uday, Uncle Rik Ronnan and Mr Sutton. Each student received a badge that they now wear with a great deal of pride. The students volunteered to be leaders in this area for a range of reasons and we commend them for taking up the call!
"I want to learn more about Aboriginal people." - Ben B.
"To understand what to practice to be a better person." - Jeremy A
"To learn about Indigenous people and cultures." Blake B
"I have always wanted to be a FIRE Carrier because I wanted to be a part of something during school and to learn about our Indigenous cultures." - Eden C
A few days later the 14 FIRE Carrier students had the opportunity to be involved in a Reconciliation Walk that commenced at the Kyabram Fauna Park, making stops at KCLC, KDHS and concluding at Aldara Yenara for a BBQ lunch and yarn.
We commend our new 14 Carrier Students for taking up the challenge of bringing our FIRE Carrier Covenant to life in 2024.
