Children’s Book Week (Week 6 Term 3)

The shortlist books for the different categories of the Children’s Book of the Year Awards are all here now. If you would like to see them or learn more about them look out for our information sessions next term. The winners will be announced on the Friday before Children’s Book Week (17-23rd August). The theme for 2024 is Reading is Magic. Don’t forget our Book Character Parade too. On the Friday of Book Week the staff and students will dress up for our annual parade. It’s a great time now to start thinking about possible costumes. Some great ideas for this year might be related to magic creatures or characters from stories.

New Books

This week we bought the latest book in the Hot Dog! Series by Ahn Do, number 16 'Garden Time'. Students have been enjoying this series with its illustrations and fast paced, humorous stories. Ahn Do has written many series which are much loved by students including WierDo; Wolf Girl; Pow Pow Pig; Mythix and Ninja Kid.

Reconciliation Week

For the last few weeks we have listened to stories linked to Reconciliation Week. Students made connections to places when we looked at a map of Australia with different Aboriginal tribal groups listed on it. They investigated what they know about Sorry Day when we looked at a Non-Fiction book about National Sorry Day. We talked about how the land and nature need to be looked after and respected when we read Greg Dreise’s book 'Circles of Life'. Student’s thought about what their own thank you circles would look like.
