Strings Soirees
This week families were treated to three evenings of Strings Soirees.
String Solo Soirees #1 Monday 3rd June and #2 Tuesday 4th June
This week is the week of the annual IPS String Solos Soirees. Every student in Corelli Strings or Orchestra is invited to perform a solo at an evening concert. Because there are so many students taking on this challenge (80 this year!), the concert runs over three nights. The string teachers have been so proud to see the extra effort people have put into preparing their solos and the courage people have shown to persevere through uncomfortable feelings in order to perform in front of the audience. We have been hearing a wide variety of music with so many beautiful moments. Well done everyone!

Last night I played the Can Can in the Solo Soireé, which was in the Collaboration Space. There were thirty kids playing and I was the fifth one to play.
I was a bit nervous before I played, but my friend Hazel was there and she helped me feel better. I am happy that I played in front of so many people, and it was extra special because it was the day before my birthday!

It was a very enjoyable experience. My legs were literally shaking but I persisted on and I continued to play. It was a gorgeous time and it was super fun.

I really enjoyed the Monday soirée. Seeing all those musicians - from budding talent to blooming prowess - work hard to practise a piece then show their skills was truly thrilling! I was not bored for a moment. From the piping tone of the violin to the low rumbling of the cello, every note was filled with the violinist or cellist’s heart and soul. It was truly a night of music and joy.

On Tuesday night, part 2/3 of the 2024 String Solo Soirees performed. It was a one of a kind experience with twenty-five brave students showing all the school values. All students played exceptionally well and even Liz, Margaret and Luke performed! Instruments that performed included mostly violin, some cello and 3 double bass. Their practise finally paid off.

On Tuesday night was the soiree concert where students performed using their instruments, either violin, cello or double bass. It was a very different experience and all students played exceptionally well on that night. They showed all of the school values, confidence, independence and resilience. It must be so hard getting up and playing in front of a bunch of people. Well done to all of the students who performed on that night.

Last night, the strings students played at the Solo Soiree. Everyone tried their hardest and the outcome was amazing! The melody created was like swimming in music notes. Melodies rung in your head as harmonies from the piano echoed around the room. Best Solo Soiree ever!
