Year 3

Literacy

This term in 3B we have explored Roald Dahls novel Matilda. We read the book from start to finish. After we read Matilda, we were inspired to write our own stories using characters, settings and emotions. We also got to watch the 1996 version of Matilda and had a hot chocolate!

Visit to the Bayside Library

On Wednesday, our year three class went to the Bayside Library for some peace and quiet. We met the librarian, and she showed us how to borrow books. We learnt how to use the computer and search for different books. We walked for a while to get to our destination. The year three students enjoyed the visit to the library. We were introduced to new books and stories. At Bayside Library, we learnt how to take care of books and equipment.

Kensuke's Kingdom

In Year Four, we have been doing a lot of research on a book called Kensuke's Kingdom. It is about a boy named Michael who gets washed up on an island for ten years. Michael travels on a boat called Peggy Sue with his mum and dad, and his adorable sheepdog, Stella. We have been doing activities in a little booklet after reading the book. Additionally, we have been looking at independent clauses and dependent clauses, and what makes up a proper sentence. We will continue or novel study, Kensuke's Kingdom in Term Three.

Topic

On Tuesday, we conducted experiments with toy cars. We learnt about different forces like pull, push, and gravity. It was very experimental, as we got to test out different surfaces in the hall. We tested on all sorts of things like smooth tables and bumpy tables, different types of carpet like the stage, the classroom carpet, and the rug. With the toy cars, we learnt how different surfaces create friction; on the tables, the cars went faster, while on the carpet, they went slower.

We used all sorts of car types, for example, metal and plastic. One of the reasons metal went faster than plastic is because metal is heavier, which makes it more stable.

Student Teacher - Miss Walsh

We were fortunate enough to have Miss Walsh in Year 4 from week 7-10. She was awesome, it was amazing having her here! She helped us when we got stuck, and she helped teach when Miss Tench and Mrs Collins needed to plan. We all wish she never had to leave. My favourite thing about her was that she was always there for me when I needed her. she helped me during literacy and maths. We miss her and a grateful for all that she did over the 3 weeks.
