"We can all shape the future"

Dear Parents and Families,

Wow what an incredible term and so much has been achieved over the past 11 weeks. We are so proud of each and every student at Sacred Heart for the way in which they have completed this term trying their very best in all areas of school life. From our victorious Lightning Premiership winners in Years 5 & 6 to our youngest prep students who have continued to learn each and every day, we are extrodinarily proud and all the year levels in between. Although its a scrape to the finish line this term with some very tired students (and staff) we have continued to learn in our new learning spaces fairly seamlessy. A huge thanks to the staff for their enormous efforts in setting up their classrooms and ensuring our explicit instruction hasn't missed  a beat this term. We all look forward to a well deserved rest. We wish all the families that are travelling a safe and enjoyable break away from Melbourne and for those families staying closer to home, we hope you can switch off and rest and recouperate too.

Mr Blake's Farewell

Today we farewelled Dara Blake, our Yr 5 teacher and Religious Education and Maths leader as he ventures back to the Emerald Isle after teaching at Sacred Heart for 10 years. We are held a fitting assembly this morning where we showcased a video with present and past students, shared speeches and anecdotes from staff and students of Mr Blake's time at Sacred Heart, ending with a beautiful Irish blessing sung by the year 5 students. Mr Blake has been instrumental in many extra curricular aspects of school life including, Running club, The Colour Run, the year 6 sleepout and fundraisers for St Vincent de Paul and the Caritas Compassion project during Lent. He held many professional learning meetings in Religious Education and Mathematics, always with a practical idea to take back to the classroom. Mr Blake also organised many school liturgies, masses, sacraments as RE leader for many years. We thank Mr Blake for all the extra curricular activities he's been involved in at Sacred Heart and we’ll miss him teaching and leading us. We wish all the very best for your next chapter of your life and good luck for your big swim when you return home.

Please stay in touch and we all know we’ll be in touch when we travel to Ireland.

Sacred Heart will miss you!

Football Lightning premierships

Congratulations to our  2 football teams who came back to school with a win and a trophy last week. We are definitely going to need a new trophy cabinet in the new building project. We are extremely proud of the way in which both teams played on and off the sports field. We thank our teachers and coaches Mr Blake, Mr Brown and Miss Tench for preparing and supporting you all and they were so proud to represent Sacred Heart with you in the Dendy district. We look forward to the next stage as they go on to play in the Beachside division early next term. All details have been sent out on Operoo.

ANZ Leadership Initiative

This week our year 5 students were fortunate enough to participate in a leadership initiative run by ANZ Managing Directors and General Managers. They participated in group discusson about What is leadership? What is leadership to you? They were discussing and giving examples of where they have shown leadership or where they have observed leadership and brainstormed ideas. with the directors and managers they discussed leadership in the future and created a collage of a future dream city. The discussions continued about how will they live? What kind of technology will they have?  Each group presented their collages to the group and explained their thinking. The final take away was "We can all shape the future". We thank the team from ANZ for offering us this unique opportuniy at Sacred Heart and the teachers Miss Bull and Mrs Maddocks for their assistance with this initiative.

Playgroup

Last week we had playgroup in our new space over in the church foyer. We had almost 20 pre schoolers join us with their parents and carers. We thank Father Martin for allowing us to use this space on Friday mornings once a month. We still managed to have storytime and a play outside on our 'adventure' around the block!

The next playgroup will be held on Friday 26th of July. All welcome.

Farewell to Harper & Charlotte and the Brudenellfamily as they venture back to Sydney, we wish you all the very best of luck in your new home and school.

Wishing you a well deserved holiday break and hope you can rest and return to school recharged ready for a wonderful Term 3,
