FAREWELL MR BLAKE - SAFE TRAVELS TO IRELAND

Dear Families and Friends,

Our newsletter this fortnight looks a little different as Mr. Collis is spending some precious time traveling with his family. We are reassured that he is enjoying his time away, taking in the sights, and keeping up to date, albeit from afar, on his beloved Sacred Heart and Navy Blues.

As we close out the term, we reflect, celebrate, and bid farewell to our dedicated and much-loved Mr. Blake. We hope that he is able to enjoy and savour his achievements over his time at Sacred Heart.

What a term we have had, there is much to celebrate and be proud of, here is small snapshot of what has been achieved.

Here are some of the highlights from our term at Sacred Heart:

  • Cross country for Years 5 & 6
  • Mothers' Day stall and assembly
  • Year 6 Confirmation retreat and sacrament
  • Readiness Wellbeing program
  • Talent show
  • Quiet club
  • Kinder visits with our Grade 4 children
  • Visits to Sandringham Library by Grade 3 & 5 students
  • Visits to Mercy Fernhill Aged Care by Grade 5 students
  • Grade 3/4 Billycart incursion
  • Visits to Chesterfield Farm by Grade P, 1, and 2 students
  • Grandparents' Day celebration
  • Soccer lightning premiership
  • Little Hearts of Sandy Playgroups
  • AFL lightning premiership
  • NCCD audit and census collection
  • Continued commitment to the TIM Series initiative in P-6 (Teaching for Impact in Mathematics), providing research and evidence-based support for teachers and leaders to integrate high-impact instruction into their classrooms
  • Staff professional development with Tom Bennett, the team at La Trobe University and the Teach Well Project (Literacy and Mathematics Masterclass)
  • Prospective 2025 and 2026 school tours

There's been so much to celebrate within our wonderful learning community, with numerous additional activities spread throughout the term. We can proudly say that alongside these achievements, we have successfully maintained a full academic program and executed a calm and organised relocation of eight classes.

We are pleased to inform our community that all electrical systems in the project have been isolated, and simple demolition has begun. During the school holidays, the building team will undertake significant demolition work in the office area. This timing will allow heavy machinery access to the school with minimal disruption to our students.

Senior gem from Grade 6 - "Where is the science room? Is that where we will do explosions?"

GIRLS & MIXED FOOTBALL LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP CHAMPIONS 2024

Congratulations to our Year 5 & 6 girls and mixed teams for all for winning the AFL football lightning premiership on Thursday and Friday last week. This is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved, highlighting their sportsmanship and resilience. With our upcoming building program, it may be time to consider investing in a trophy cabinet to showcase our students' successes - we now have three trophies in our collection. We extend our gratitude to Mr. Brown, Mr. Blake, and Miss Tench for supporting and coaching the students on the day. A special thank you to Jack and Byron (Year 11) from St Bede's for their assistance.

Farewell Mr Blake

Today, we bid farewell to Mr. Blake at assembly as he returns home to Ireland for the next chapter of his life. Dara has been an integral part of Sacred Heart for the past 10 years. We sincerely thank all past and present students and their families who have taken the time to send in a video to celebrate his time at Sacred Heart and wish him well on his journey ahead.

We truly appreciate the numerous contributions dedicated to Dara from our staff throughout this fortnightly newsletter, we sincerely hope you enjoy the beautiful video presented at assembly.

Cyber Safety

Recently in the news there has been discussion and proposals regarding the age limits around social media. This article featured in the recent communications from Melbourne Archdiocese to all Catholic Schools. Please take the time to sit down, read and chat with your child regarding cybersafety.

For most parents today, how their teenagers use and are affected by social media is an ongoing concern. Perceived by some as a rite of passage that coincides with birthdays or when moving to secondary school, using phones and social media presents a raft of challenges for parents and schools (Weir 2023).

Important Reminder for Families and Carers: Adherence to Road Rules at Pick-Up Times

We kindly remind all families and carers to follow the road rules and community expectations during school pick-up times. We have received ongoing concerns from our neighbours and a council complaint regarding those who struggle to access their driveways or safely navigate Sandringham Road and nearby streets due to traffic congestion and double parking.

Unfortunately, we cannot increase the capacity to accommodate more vehicles in these areas. Therefore, it is crucial that we all work together to meet these reasonable expectations, prioritizing safety and maintaining positive relationships within our broader community.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Enjoy the holidays, stay safe & warm.
