Prep

Hello from PH

We have been very busy in Prep H this term! In Maths we have been ordering numbers and making collections. We used a deck of cards to first sort them by their colours. Then we sorted them by their suits. Once we had only one suit left, we ordered the numbers from 0-9 and then made towers of blocks to match.

We have also been learning all about teen numbers! We have been looking at the funny way we say them in English and how we have to almost read it backwards. We have been renaming them to help us with our place value. So instead of sixteen we have been saying ‘onety six’. We know that teen numbers have 1 ten and then some ones left over. We use lots of concrete materials to make the numbers to help us with this understanding.

In Literacy we have been practising writing words and sentences in the mornigs. We use CVC words and some of our tricky words to help us. Some mornings we also get to use Reading Eggs on the iPads to help us practise our phonics too!

We have also been learning about syllables. We practise counting syllables in words by talking like robots, clapping the words and also holding our chins. We played a syllable race game with a partner to practise counting syllables in words. It was so much fun! We also made a poster of how many syllables we have in our names.
