Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

This is the last newsletter from me in a while as I embark on my Maternity Leave at the end of Week One next term. I just want to say it’s an absolute pleasure to teach your children at Essendon North Primary School. I’ve seen kids come such a long way with their confidence and performance skills. I will definitely miss everyone during my time away, but I’ve got coming back to look forward to and being in the Performing Arts space once more.

Lindi De Angelis will be taking over my position whilst I’m away. Lindi has a wealth of knowledge in Performing Arts. She has trained, performed and choreographed in the following dance styles in South Africa, England and Australia: Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Ballroom and Latin American Dance, Salsa, Argentine Tango, Tap, Gumboot Dance, African, Spanish, Jazz and Contact Improvisation. Lindi has also had diverse theatre training, including Greek, Elizabethan, Indian, Epic Theatre and Poor Theatre as well as Method Acting, South African Storytelling and Physical Theatre. I’m so excited for Lindi to take on my position and work alongside the Specialist Team.

Each year level is wrapping up their unit of inquiry this week and ending the term with some fun ARTS activities. Here’s what’s been going on…

Foundation

Foundation students have continued to explore with their senses in the linked unit of inquiry ‘Senses help us explore the world’. Over the last few weeks, students have tuned in to their sense of hearing to create Rain Makers. These Rain Makers will come home this week for you to explore further.

Year One and Two

Year One and Two students have completed their ‘Dance Maps’ and have been participating in some fun Performing Arts activities - like Transformation of Object.

Year Three and Four

Year Three and Four students have completed the Cha Cha Cha and performed it in costume to the class group. This week, they began to create a dance of their own in small groups. Please see some photographs below of the Year Fours performing their Cha Cha Chas.

Year Five

Year Five students have begun piecing their small group pieces together to create a class Flash Mob. This will be performed in a public space around the school next week sometime.

Year Six

Year Six students are working hard on their Clowning Routines. Over the last few weeks, they have created their Solutions and Big Grand Exits. They will perform these to a younger year level at the beginning of next term after a prop making session.

That’s it from me.

I’ll catch you all again after my Maternity Leave.
