Year Four

During our last unit of inquiry, the Year Four students learnt how to bump up their narrative writing skills. The students wrote narratives that tapped into their interests which came from different sparks or seeds. They progressed through the writing process to plan, draft, revise, edit and publish a range of narratives. Among other things, they learnt about how to use dialogue to move their story forward and they explored how to speed up parts of their stories that didn’t progress the story and slow down other parts that they wanted to highlight to their audiences. Their revision skills are fantastic! It’s always so exciting to see changes that students have made to their writing and to listen to them talk about why they made those changes.

We finished our unit by creating picture story books with an authentic audience in mind. The students spent time planning their picture story books as both author and illustrators, with the Year Two cohort as their audience. Students experimented with different design features such as text and illustration placement, format and layout and how to create an eye-catching front cover.

The students were both excited and nervous to share with the Year Two cohort! Below are some pictures of the day. The Year Four students also had an opportunity to share with their own cohort.
