2024 Cadet Program

Jemima Dillion, Year 11, Plenty Campus

As the 2024 cadet year concludes, there have been numerous events occurring around the school to commemorate the year and begin preparations for the upcoming year of new leaders. All those who participated in the program throughout 2024 were firstly invited to join the 2024 cadet parade, in which both Plenty and Ridgeway cadets came together to showcase their dedication and talent within the program. The parade included a formal inspection of the unit, followed by speeches of congratulations to both the Year 12 leaders, and all those who contributed to the success of the cadet program this year.

Once all the rehearsals and the parade itself had concluded, all Year 12 students within the program were invited to join the annual cadet dinner hosted at the MCG, where further commemorations were held to celebrate all the hard work the Year 12 students had put into their final year.

However, while the 2024 cadet year has ended, students have been working hard preparing for the upcoming promotions camp, in which there are opportunities to advance within the unit, undertaking more responsibility and leadership.

Cristian Corvetti, Year 11, Plenty Campus

The final ceremonial parade held at Ridgeway Campus is an event each cadet year that symbolises the growth and discipline each individual has achieved. Personally it also makes me reflect on how far I’ve come from being a clueless recruit to now trying to achieve a CUO/WO position for the 2025 cadet year. I am extremely grateful to be invited to promotions camp, to try to achieve a CUO rank. The preparation involved for the camp utilises my skills in communication, running activities and organisation through the completion of tasks. The balance between the preparation tasks and my school subjects has been difficult at times but has developed my discipline and resilience, which is something that has grown drastically over the years I’ve been involved in cadets. My growth, discipline and resilience is something I will forever cherish as it has helped make me the person I am today. Overall, being involved with cadets has been one of, if not the best highlight from my schooling journey so far which I hope will continue.
