Class 1

This term has been an exciting and very productive for the students of Class 1. The students have settled beautifully into Peninsula Specialist College and have participated in a wide range of exciting activities. Highlights have included swimming at YAWA, PMP sessions with Ryan every Friday and bike ed. On a Monday. The boys of Class 1 have enthusiastically participated in Art sessions with Jess where they have made kites and sea creatures.
Cooking has proven to be a major high spot of the week where students have donned aprons and produced a number of yummy dishes under the guidance of Chris. Students have also been working on their dance skills with Kieran and Monique where they have engaged in activities that involve rhythm, clapping and have played a variety of instruments.
These sessions have fostered skills such as listening, memory and coordination in addition to social skills such as taking turns and working together. Within the classroom we have been working on reading readiness and have developed phonological awareness through rhymes and songs. There has been a strong emphasis on communication in the classroom including the use of visual aids and supports, choice boards, AAC, story telling and reading, sign language and group activities. We have celebrated birthdays and new friendships have been formed. We look forward to the term ahead.
